Job Description

Definition:

Provide intervention support in literacy and math for students in a collaborative working environment emphasizing independent judgment and self-directed work habits. The primary focus of support is to close the achievement gap(s) as identified by staff and administration.
This position may also perform other tasks the teacher deems necessary to support this goal.
Under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher with additional support from the Principal.
Maintain the confidentiality of the staff and students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· With assistance and supervision of classroom teacher, identify and assess students who could benefit from intensive reading, writing and math support.

· In collaboration with classroom teacher, select appropriate materials and implement strategies to meet identified instructional needs.

· Use a variety of appropriate instructional strategies to meet identified instructional needs.

· Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to students, as directed by the classroom teacher.

· Communicate regularly with classroom teacher about student progress.

· Participate in literacy and math training that includes assessment training as specified by the district.

· Model appropriate reading, writing, speaking and listening skills with students.

· Assist the teacher during assemblies, library, music, or recess as requested.

· Other duties as assigned by Principal.

Evaluation:
Classroom paraprofessionals will be evaluated twice yearly by the classroom teacher.

They may also be evaluated by the Principal.

General Qualifications:

· Must have successfully completed a minimum of two years of college or the equivalent number of college credit OR achieve a passing score on the paraprofessional examination administered by the Humboldt County Office of
Education.
· Previous experience working with elementary students.
· Demonstrate knowledge of early literacy strategies.

· Demonstrate effective, positive communication skills with students, parents and staff.

· Demonstrate excellent skills in language mechanics (spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc.)
· Ability to work closely and cooperatively with other school staff.
· Ability to make some independent instructional decisions.
· Ability to work with children in a positive, nurturing manner.
· Basic computer literacy.
· Basic first aid skills.

Hours:

· 5.5-6.5 hours per day (positions vary)

· 181 days per year (180 days students are in attendance plus one prior to start of school)

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $15.92 per hour

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
