Position: Systems Engineer - Infrastructure Virtualization

This is NOT an entry level position however and will require that you come pre-equipped with certain skills, knowledge and experience which is further described below.

Primary Duty: Engineering and designing solutions for our virtualization and storage environments, as well as developing documentation and training for our IT Operations teams.

Requirements:

  • Fluent English, and high oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with network storage technologies such as NAS, iSCSI, FC, FCOE, and NVMeOF in regard to VMware requirements.
  • Extensive experience with VMware ESX and VSphere 6.0+ deployment, configuration, and maintenance in production environments.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of enterprise-class server solutions such as Dell EMC rack servers, Lenovo servers, and Nutanix HCI.
  • Advanced knowledge in Windows Server or Linux and related technologies.
  • Experience with containerization like Kubernetes, Docker or Tanzu.
  • Experience or understanding of network Virtualization like: NSX-T or NSX-V.
  • Experience in system and network management and monitoring tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SNMP and other TCP/IP protocols and services in support of the virtualization and storage technologies.
  • Advanced experience in automating deploying Servers on VMware and the optimization of these platforms.
  • Experience and knowledge in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Perl, and VBScript.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all IT Infrastructure groups.
  • Experience in data protection solutions such as Veeam, Zerto, Cohesity, and Rubrik.
  • Advanced troubleshooting methodology, identifying, researching, and resolving technical problems.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Ability to be on-call for Operations teams for escalations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with maintaining the enterprise virtualization environment (VMware), including troubleshooting, performance monitoring and optimization, capacity, and continuity planning.
  • Deploy, support, and troubleshoot vSphere (ESXi, vCenter, and other VMware associated technologies).
  • Creation and management of OS gold images meeting compliance and business standards.
  • Develop and maintain company standard server technology policies to ensure compliance with security and capacity standards.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing by creating and maintaining detailed, comprehensive documentation and diagrams
  • Maintain an expert level of knowledge of infrastructure expertise by maintaining current certifications, attending seminars or though other related activities
  • Respond quickly and effectively to production issues and take responsibility for seeing issues through resolution
  • Participate in project planning, design and maintenance of IT Infrastructure
  • Researching and sourcing new technologies, providing architectural advice / recommendations to IT management and steering committee to improve the infrastructure environments
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for support of systems outside of normal business hours
  • Assist in the DR (Disaster Recovery) planning of a multi-site Virtualization and Storage infrastructure along with DR planning for local sites where IT Infrastructure equipment present
  • Participate in Post-Mortem meetings to discuss any outage occurrences, develop safeguards, and where appropriate, implement any recommended changes to avoid reoccurrence
  • Mentor and provide training to other team members within the engineering and operational teams, and coordinate and plan maintenance and upgrades with Operational Teams.
  • Provide input to security policies. Proactively monitor for patch compliance and analyze patches for compatibility and approve implementation/changes.
  • Work with security compliance teams, implement and maintain secure platforms to adhere to HIPAA, SOX and PCI-DSS requirements. Implement and maintain monitoring systems and tools which are required for HIPAA, SOX and PCI-DSS.

Experiences with, or having the following is a plus:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (will consider technical training/job experience equivalents).
  • Experience and proficiency in managing and maintaining medium to large sized environments.
  • Experience with Active Directory and other authentication methods utilizing password-based, multi-factor, certificate-based, and token-based authentication methods.
  • Experience with Zerto
  • FreeNAS, unRaid, Synology
  • Ansible, Ansible Tower, AWX, Puppet, Chef, Terraform
  • Public Cloud and Hybrid Cloud solutions
  • Experience managing or integrating with public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience supporting multiple data centers
  • Experience working in ITIL based process model (Incident, Change and Request Fulfillment)
  • Familiarity with Application Monitoring (Dynatrace, Telegraf, LogBeat, Kibana, Grafana)
  • Familiarity with .Net / .Net Core application development,
  • IIS (Internet Information Service)
  • Kubernetes, Database in Containers
  • NGINX, AVI, Kemp, F5 Load Balancing
  • Nutanix HCI
  • Apache Kafka, ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)
  • VMware certifications such as VCP
  • Microsoft certifications such as MCP, MCITP, MCSE, MCSA
  • Veeam certifications such as VMCE
