Collins Aerospace is a seeking Stress Engineering, Senior Manager with a strong background in structural analysis to oversee a team of stress engineers. Responsibilities include driving closure of technical challenges, planning, organizing, leading, measuring, and developing the team to achieve goals. You will engage with a functional support team in India and/or Mexico. The manager will take ownership of various components, such as nacelles and thrust reversers, or other primary and secondary structures. These components are either metallic or composite structures and may be utilized for either commercial or military applications.

The position is working in a Hybrid capacity from our Chula Vista CA facility. This is working a mix of onsite and remotely from home on a weekly basis. Relocation assistance is available.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish goals and priorities for the team and develop plans to achieve them

  • Understand the scope, time, and resources required to achieve the goals

  • Coordinate and plan various activities with the program customer and create a low-cost sourcing plan to align with budget and strategic business objectives

  • Divide work into manageable activities and assign tasks to the right people or groups

  • Establish metrics and reporting requirements

  • Coordinate with internal and external customers, ensuring standard analysis methods are utilized or appropriate mitigation methods when needed

  • Motivate team members and create a team environment, leveraging technical experience to lead the team.

  • Provide technical direction and guidance, coordinating with cross-discipline peers and subject matter experts.

  • Lead engineering investigations to establish root cause and implement appropriate corrective/preventive actions.

  • Initiate or support key process improvements, communicate goals and relevant information, establish regular staff and individual meetings, and device ways to empower team members, drive inclusion, and effectively delegate tasks.

  • Be data-driven in setting targets and standards, and in appraising performance.

  • Manage budgets, ensuring alignment with program and business objectives.

  • Monitor progress for stress engineering milestones and deliverables, and make corrections as necessary.

  • Account for all technical deliverables and drive improvement in key metrics such as OTD, FPY, productivity, and targeted turnback reduction.

  • Recognize the value of employees as a critical organizational asset.

  • Identify strengths and opportunities of employees and develop staff through training, mentoring, work assignments, and supporting the LDR process.

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and typically a minimum of 7 years of experience

  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

  • Experience leading a team of engineers

  • Experience in structural and/or stress analysis

  • Experience with aircraft structures, parts and/or components

  • Understanding of load path and load balance and experience in classical hand analysis methods

  • Technical Writing experience

  • Experience with Continuous Improvement tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CATIA V

  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, ACE or CORE

  • Experience with tooling or equipment design

  • Experience with nacelles, thrust reversers, or other primary and secondary structures

  • Good understanding of Handling Equipment (loads, CG), and Ground Support Equipment.

  • Experience with ENOVIA

  • Ability to represent company in technical review meetings and have excellent customer relations

The salary range for this role is 112,000 USD - 236,000 USD; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
