Job Description

Essential Functions

• Serves as the STEMI program coordinator and provides leadership to maintain Joint Commission Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification which meets state Time Critical Diagnosis (TCD) STEMI center requirements
• Anticipates emerging clinical trends in technology and guidelines, reviews impact on patient outcomes and makes recommendations for changes in practice as appropriate
• Facilitates and implements systems which promote and maintain effective communication and collaboration with inter/intra hospital physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team
• Maintains appropriate records and documentation of clinical and educational activities
• Monitors the care, quality markers, and outcomes of all STEMI/Chest Pain patients
• Works within the Cardiovascular Service Line to determine appropriate quality and operational measurement criteria to monitor the performance in the care of ACS patients and collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to improve results
• Demonstrates ability to work effectively with patients, families, and with professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care
• Supervises clinical activities of ancillary team members
• Recognizes and uses appropriate channels to communicate stressful patient care/performance situations that arise with physicians, families, and other staff members
• Coordinates and collaborates with cardiology providers, CV surgery providers, hospitalists, primary care providers, ED providers, EMS leadership, and nurse leaders on educational and ongoing quality improvement activities to ensure care is evidenced-based, best practice
• Expands influence of Southeast Hospital's ACS/Chest Pain services in the regional market through the development of collegial relationships with community hospitals, and local/regional EMS providers
• Contributes to the development of new program ideas
• Acts as a role model, and in selected cases, precepts Nurses
• Participates in activities necessary for annual review
• Serves on departmental and interdisciplinary committees as required
• Staff education and training: Supports education programs, training, competencies and in-services for nurses and clinical staff as determined by needs assessments, new policies and procedures or new regulatory requirements
• Evaluates patient and staff educational materials, reviewing for current / best practice
• Sets realistic and measurable goals for individual developmental needs based on personal, peer, and supervisory evaluations of strengths and learning needs
• Assesses own performance status in relation to this position description and progress toward achievement of professional goals on an annual basis
• Seeks learning experiences/responsibilities to strengthen areas requiring development and to advance knowledge about other current developments in nursing
• Critiques and utilizes research findings as appropriate in the clinical setting
• May participate in medical and nursing research projects, including presenting and publishing findings
• Coordinate and provides educational programs for cardiovascular staff
• Participates in community education and health related community activities
• Any other duties as needed to drive to the Vision, fulfill the Mission and abide by the Values of the organization

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree Nursing or related field required
• RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure State of Missouri Upon Hire required
• BLS - Basic Life Support Within 90 Days required
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Within 90 Days required
