As part of the Evotec integrated R&D continuum, the Global Drug Development Business Unit (GDD) provides API and Drug Product Development and Manufacturing, Preclinical and IND enabling GLP/GMP programs.
GDD interacts also with the Integrated Drug Discovery Business Units (IDD) to support seamless and successful transition of drug candidates to preclinical and clinical development phases. Discovery and development of drug besides the small molecules, is increasingly oriented to molecule of biotechnological origin with a significant diversification of the drug candidate portfolio. In this evolving situation, Scientific Excellence and Quality Excellence of GDD must be achieved also in the new modalities Evotec is entering.
The Scientific Direction in GDD participate actively to design the strategic vision and objectives of the business unit, play a critical role in coordinating scientific and innovative activities among the various GDD operational units, and facilitate efficient interactions between GDD and IDD.
The Scientific Direction, interacting with the GDD Global Head and with the GDD Leadership Team, has the mission to contribute to set-up and implement strategies focused on people scientific development and knowledge management, on innovation including continuous technology and process update in the various field and competences of the Drug Development organization, including the evolution of technical and scientific trends in drug development.
The Scientific Direction operates in a matrix organization and is composed by a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and Working Groups dedicated to strategic, knowledge management and innovation initiatives. In order to foster the impact of the Scientific Direction within GDD and within Evotec, the position of Scientific Direction Associate has been created.
The Role
The role of GDD Scientific Direction Associate is located in Verona (Italy) and will report to the SVP Head of Scientific Direction as part of the Global Drug Development organization
The Scientific Direction Associate will support the SVP Head of Scientific Direction and GDD Management members to set-up, lead and execute strategic initiatives in alignment with the strategy of Scientific Excellence. The role and the corresponding activities will span across all the GDD operational units including the update of technical and scientific capabilities including their visibility in the market and contribute to align GDD with IDD within the framework of the R&D continuum independent of the modality.
In addition to the collaboration and/or drive of initiatives with the SAB and other Working Groups, the Scientific Direction Associate is expected to interact intensively with the Evotec’s marketing function as well as with the Strategic Drug Development Service Portfolio Manager.
The
GDD Scientific Direction Associate must have a very strong and proofed experience in drug development field with a significant understanding and practical experience in Preclinical Development.
The Responsibilities
- Together with the SVP Head of Scientific Direction, contribute actively to the development of the Scientific Strategy in GDD.
- Develop specific strategic plans related to cultivation of the Science Excellence including scientific and technology Innovation and Knowledge management.
- Foster the update on technological advances and industry trends, which allows them to provide the organization‘s governing body with high quality inputs supporting their decision on strategic scientific matters.
- Be a major contributor to the efficient interaction of GDD with IDD.
- Monitor and when requested, coordinate/drive and/or be member of the core team of interfunctional strategic initiatives entrusted the achievement of scientific strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with GDD Groups managers and members to evaluate and recommend strategies consistent with GDD business goals
- Be the GDD Scientific Direction focal point for Advanced Therapies strategic activities
- Develop and implement key metrics to measure and report on the progress of initiatives and special projects
- Drive or participate actively to the appropriate dissemination of information from Scientific Direction initiatives and related activities.
- Participate actively as a member to the Scientific Advisory Board and Strategic Forum.
- Be the chairman of specific forum or act as a delegate chairman of the SVP Head of Scientific Direction.
- Report about activities conducted and results obtained.
The qualifications, competences & required skills
- PhD or Master in a life sciences discipline relevant to the offered position
- At least 15 years experience in drug development in industrial environment
- Significant experience in CMC aspects of pharmaceutical development (10+years) is a desirable plus
- Previous management experience represent a desirable plus
- Demonstrated deep understanding of all the steps of drug development process
- Attitude to work in a matrix organization and to coordinate matrix teams associated with team building and motivation capacity
- Curious, enthusiast and proactive person with excellent communication skills, think out of the box attitude, can-do attitude, creativity and attention to details.
- Effective planning and organizational skills
- Networking acumen.
- Very good spoken and written English level is required.
