School Speech Language Specialist (part time, temporary)

Hawkswood School is searching for a temporary Speech Language Specialist to cover a leave of absence. The schedule is part time, 3 days per week.

Hawkswood School is a private school in Eatontown, New Jersey, approved by the State of New Jersey to provide special education services and supports to students on the autism spectrum and to students with multiple disabilities, ages 3 to 21. We are committed to empowering students with disabilities to be self-expressed, self-directed and contributing members of their families and communities. Hawkswood School runs a 12-month program.

This position is available starting late March / early April, 2023 for approximately 6 months.

Employment Requirement:

• Due to the vulnerable populations served by Hawkswood School, staff members are required to be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.

Certification and Licensure Requirement:

• NJ Dept of Education certification as Speech Language Specialist and NJ license as Speech Pathologist is required. Experience with individuals with special needs is helpful.

Responsibilities include:

• Evaluate and diagnose disorders of speech and language upon referral from sending school district.
• Collaboratively prepare current speech and language PLAAFP and goals for students’ Individual Educational Plans.
• Administer appropriate therapy for communication and feeding disorders.
• Maintain parent contact and collaborate with classroom teachers and other related service personnel.
• Utilize Assistive Technology competencies to improve educational, communicative or organizational growth.
• Recommend referral to and maintain contact with other professionals where necessary (audiologists, orthodontists, E.N.T. physicians.).
• Maintain daily pupil contact records.
