Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, responsible for acting as senior resource person throughout library system in area of functional specialty. The librarian in this position is critical for strengthening the library’s support of the faculty and students in the School of Nursing. This person provides a single point of contact for library services, and for increasing awareness of library resources to increase student success. The librarian provides reference and research assistance; customized instruction in finding literature to support evidence-based practice; and expert database searching to support scholarly activity and patient care. Additional or special duties as assigned. This position reports to the Associate Director of Liaison Services.

Work Schedule:

Liaison librarian will primarily work in hybrid environment (70-85% remote). Days on campus will vary - commuting to campus as necessary for on-site duties such as on-site reference services, in-person research consultations, and classroom instruction.

Job Duties:

  • Serves as single point of contact between the library and the School of Nursing (SON). Promotes library services, resources, and events. Assesses the library-related needs of students and faculty in SON and offers customized library and information services. Consults with library administration to enhance library collections and services to better meet the SON needs. Stays current regarding changes in areas of scholarly communication and informs faculty when these changes impact their work.


  • Provides orientations and training sessions related to the use of library services and resources, evidence-based practice, critical appraisal of literature, reference management tools, and scholarly communications topics.
  • Creates instructional materials in multiple formats for use by students, faculty, and staff. Offers training sessions via virtual means in addition to traditional face-to-face instruction.
  • Serves as a consultant for the enhancement of the library collection of subject-related materials. Collaborates with researchers on systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Provides advocacy on public access policies of federal funding agencies.


  • As a member of the library’s On-Call team, provides service to library users by responding to directional, ready reference, informational and in-depth requests for information on specific topics. Requests are handled in-person, via phone, email, and/or teleconferencing.

  • Liaison librarians are expected to stay current on updates to library resources and other research tools as well as participate in training sessions when available.


  • Assists library users in developing search strategies and locating specific print and online information. Refers users to other libraries and/or agencies as appropriate. Performs extensive and exhaustive searches of biomedical literature to address research questions, in-process publications, grant applications, and issues related to patient care using PubMed, OVID, CINAHL, Scopus, and other databases.

  • As part of the Structured Review Service, collaborates with faculty and staff researchers on structured literature reviews and meta-analyses. Developing expertise to conduct structured reviews independently and to advise primary investigators is critical. Liaison librarians are expected to stay current on guidance related to structured reviews, support applications, and participate in training sessions when available.

  • Reports on activities for library reports and publications. Participates in planning activities for the Liaison Librarians Unit, may serve on short-term committees within the library designed to develop and implement solutions, and may serve on, or attend, other library or campus committees as appropriate.


  • Liaison librarians may undertake other tasks depending on the needs of their areas or their specialized knowledge or skillsets. For example, produce reports on publication-related activities, citation analysis, and/or impact of the students and/or faculty in their areas.

Education:

Master's degree in Library or Information Science is required.

Experience:

Five (5) years of library experience with increasingly responsible work assignments and supervisory responsibilities is required.

Preferred experience: Five (5) years of experience in an academic health sciences library.

Additional Licenses and Certifications:

ALA-accredited MLS is required.
