Job description

Delivers patient care utilizing Respiratory Care procedures, data collection and assessment; implementation and prioritization of patient's problems and needs; and development/implementation/evaluation of a Respiratory Plan of Care.

Job Duties:

Demonstrates critical thinking to assure the delivery of safe, quality, age-specific care. Interacts, communicates and collaborates effectively with appropriate team members. Documents accurately and in a timely manner. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures, regulatory accrediting body requirements, and professional practice standards. Therapists are required to exercise independent judgment under the supervision of a physician in the care of patients. Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital’s strategic goals. Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives. Responds to internal/external disasters as directed. Cardio-pulmonary patient assessment. Performs/assists diagnostic testing to include but not limited to Arterial punctures, blood gas analysis, EKG's and Pulmonary Function Testing. Performs safe administration of Therapeutic modialities to include Oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, ventilator management, Bi-PAP, CPAP, IPPB, and airway management. Performs Diagnostic modialities to include Arterial Sampling, Blood Gas Analysis, Pneumograms, and Bedside PFT's. Performs safe administration of aerosolized respiratory medications. Select, assemble, initiate and trouble-shoot appropriate Respiratory Care Equipment. Utilize Infection Control practices. Maintain records to include appropriate documentation and timely patient assessments. Present professional image. Assist with cost containment measures. Attend staff meetings. Complete competencies as required. Maintains patient, employee, physician and organization confidentiality. Respects the rights, privacy and property of others.


Education/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current Respiratory Care practices.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Graduate of an AMA Respiratory Care Program or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification:

Current CPR Certification and current Louisiana license. NBRC Certification/Registry.

Preferred: NICU (NRP) Certification.
