Job Description

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022, to form one agency, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). We are seeking a Resident Treatment Technician (RTT) to join the team at the Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI). This is a full-time position with HHS, and in addition to the base pay rate, there is an available shift differential of $0.90 per hour for second shift. The Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI) in Independence, Iowa, is seeking an energetic and talented Resident Treatment Technician (RTT) to perform the following duties:

• 
  Orient to and learn the position of Resident Treatment Worker (RTW) which (a) provides direct nursing care to patients as prescribed on the Treatment Plan, on- and off-ward units, under the direction of the Ward Nurse and/or the Nurse Supervisor and (b) performs basic para-professional nursing or therapeutic work in the care or treatment of residents at a state institution for the mentally ill.
• The RTT will lead safety efforts on all inpatient wards and respond to all escalating situations on and off the wards (campus). The RTT will also monitor patients in their milieu, responding to escalating situations both on and off the ward and role modeling approved Mandt techniques in de-escalation.
• The RTT will become a Certified Mandt Instructor and teach and review Mandt techniques with employees in the performance of their job duties.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to eighteen months of full time work as a nursing or therapeutic assistant in a health care facility or other facility for the intellectually disabled, mentally ill, elderly, physically ill or disabled;

any equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of post high school education (thirty semester hours or equivalent academic units) with an emphasis in nursing and/or the social or behavioral sciences for one year of experience to a maximum substitution of one year.
