The Shelby location is Clearwater Paper’s newest consumer products facility, boasting two paper mills located on 400 acres with over 600 talented employees. We are proud to produce a variety of high-quality premium and ultra-premium bathroom tissue, household paper towels, and napkins for major retail outlets throughout the United States. Our state-of-the-art technology includes 10 converting lines, 54 laser-guided vehicles, and 2 paper machines producing large quantities at high speed. Shelby is a small-town community in North Carolina’s Piedmont region with proximity to bustling downtown Charlotte and the beautiful mountain village of Asheville. What you will do

  • Unload material and product from incoming vehicles and distribute to assigned locations.
  • Ensure inventory is accurately tracked and managed.
  • Assist with the unloading and working of broke rolls/bale trailers.
  • Identify damages and report shortages or quality deficiencies.
  • Regularly inspect machinery to determine the need for repairs and guarantee safety by performing regular maintenance.
  • Able to move and work efficiently in different areas of the Warehouse as needed.
  • Reset Laser Guided Vehicles (LGV’s) as needed.
  • Align with Warehouse leadership on issues and discrepancies.
  • Communicate with the Paper Machine on proper recipe and fiber issues that may arise.
  • Load conveyor with bales onto Pulp De-stacker.
  • Track movement of material in Yard Management System.
  • Navigate the CSX website for loads.

Safety and Housekeeping

  • Hold self and others to high level of safety standards, ensuring workplace safety policies are upheld and safety rules are followed (lockout/tagout procedures, confine spaces, appropriate PPE)
  • Operate the nibbler equipment in a safe manner.
  • Accurate knowledge of the “Blue Flag” procedure on the rail spur.
  • Have knowledge of trailer LOTO procedures (trailer stands, glad hand locks)
  • Participate as needed in safety incidents and help investigate root cause.
  • Ensure work environment is clean and free from debris. Perform daily lift blowdowns.

What you will need

To be successful in this position, we are looking for candidates with the following:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a high-speed distribution environment preferred.
  • Experience in paper manufacturing preferred
  • Forklift/Clamp truck certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of various Warehouse Management Systems preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing safety procedures (lockout/tagout, conine spaces, personal protective equipment, etc.) required.
  • Ability to work quickly and with accuracy, ensuring each department has the necessary product in a timely manner preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Laser Guided Vehicles.
  • Able to work in a physically demanding environment including temperature extremes, loud noise, avoiding slipping, tripping, and falling hazards.
  • Physically capable of manual labor that includes bending, walking, reaching, and climbing in and around machinery and equipment.
  • Able to lift, up to 40 lbs. frequently, between 40 and 50 lbs. occasionally, and over 50 lbs. minimally. When lifting 50 lbs. and above, the Operator will use team lifting and overhead crane assistance.
  • Work environment includes exposure to compressed air, steam, lubrication oil, dust, and hydraulic fluid.
  • Able to wear and comply with all personal protective equipment (Eye and ear protection, steel-toed shoes, face masks, etc.)
  • Able to work a 12-hour rotating shift including nights, weekends, and Holidays. Able to work overtime as needed.
    Example of a rotating shift schedule:
    Day 1: 6:00 am – 6:30 pm
    Day 2: 6:00 am – 6:30 pm
    Day 3: 6:00 pm – 6:30 am
    Day 4: 6:00 pm – 6:30 am
    4 days off
