About The Position

The Principal Investigator/Behavioral Research Scientist participates in program evaluations and research activities to develop, assess, and transition psychological heath products intended to improve warfighter wellness. Specific fields of study may include resiliences, unit cohesion, ethical leadership, mindfulness, or medical product evalutions. Coordinate with key stakeholders such as the Army Resilience Directorate (ARD), Military Operational Medicine Research Program (MOMRP), Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Forces Command (FORSCOM), and other operational unit leadership to ensure support for the program.

Responsibilities

  • Expected to travel frequently for on-site data collections at military installations; may be remotely stationed in strategic regions to optimize interactions with military units
  • Generate written reports, present results to various audiences, and publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Perform a variety of tasks
  • May provide consultation on complex projects and is considered to be the top level contributor/specialist
  • Wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
  • Provide assistance with updating training program materials currently managed within the Research Transition Office (RTO)
  • Update the current RTO study efforts to include conducting and developing training, product development, and mental health research
  • Coordinate with Army field units to conduct initial training to verify that the skills targeted in the training program are taught as designed
  • Conduct and modify all training materials
  • Develop comprehensive lesson plans to ensure that the training is uniform across the Army once the final training packets have been developed and initial testing has been conducted
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders such as the Army Resilience Directorate (ARD), Military Operational Medicine Research Program (MOMRP), Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Forces Command (FORSCOM), and other operational unit leadership to ensure support for the program
  • Develop and administer participant surveys, focus group questionnaires, and Command interview outlines
  • Interpret specific program policies and associated principles as well as a comprehensive and detailed knowledge of directorate functions, workflow, and managerial styles to plan, organize and implement assigned programs
  • Develop, write, and seek regulatory approval for study protocols
  • Travel to perform on-site data collections and training observations with host units and assist with coordinating these data collections with select points of contact at such units
  • Manage all project materials and databases and store all project data. For surveys, the create all Remark scanning templates; maintain quality assurance of data and compliance with standard operating procedures. Virtual surveys shall be maintained through online survey instruments and stored electronically. For processed data, the implement software programs to analyze and store such data
  • Generate data summaries and/or data analyses, and brief stakeholders of the results and publish these results in the open literature or in technical reports
  • Design and produce training and marketing materials for the RTO including videos, student and instructor booklets, posters, and brochures
  • Promote safety and confidentiality of research participants at all times when working with human research studies
  • Promote humane and ethical treatment of animal subjects when working with animal research studies
  • Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Clinical Practices (GCP)
  • Maintain a collaborative research environment with all site personnel, research participants, The Geneva Foundation, and the prime partner organization

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Psychology or other Behavioral Health fields required
  • 3+ years of experience in the field or in a related area
  • 3+ years knowledge and experience with Department of Defense contracts administration and management, preferred
  • 3+ years medical research project management experience strongly desired, preferably with Department of Defense
  • Proficient in survey development, focus group and interview development, protocol writing, regulatory approval, and quantitative or qualitative analysis
  • Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a behavioral health, or similar field
  • Must be proficient in statistical analyses
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Works under immediate supervision
  • Education and training commensurate with research protocol being conducted
  • Experience with advanced medical technologies preferred
  • Demonstrate competence in oral and written communication
  • Must be organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly, and professional demeanor
  • Ability to be flexible with changing priorities and available to interact with employees, clients, and sponsors at all levels
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in fast-paced, high-pressured environment with strict deadlines and to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to develop strong trusting relationships to gain support and achieve results
  • Computer skills, including at least intermediate experience with Excel and other Microsoft Office software

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $88,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
