A successful operations Manager is responsible for effectively managing, supervising, coordinating plant facilities operation and training Operating Engineers, related trade staff, and contractors as assigned by the Plant Manager. The Operations Manager is charged with first responsibility for health and safety of staff. The Manager provides support services that ensures a safe and comfortable environment for the community. Must communicate and interact with multiple departments and is expected to behave in a professional manner, comply with policies and practices, and be flexible with respect to scheduling and work as part of a team.


What you’ll do:

  • Work alongside Maintenance Manager and Plant Manager to schedule develop and perform predictive and preventive maintenance on all gas turbines, heat recover steam generators, steam turbines, boilers and generators and electrical systems
  • Responsible for all Environmental monitoring and reporting requirements for the Plant
  • Supervises and manages the Operating engineers
  • Ensures all systems are operating to maximum efficiency, including energy.
  • Inspects and trouble shoots failed systems; keeps logs and records on all equipment
  • Completes and maintains Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) program and ensures compliance with OSHA regulations
  • Responds to plant outages and ensure the productivity of Operations staff.
  • Schedules work and evaluates performance of all Operations staff
  • Meets with and informs management of conditions and makes recommendations on repair and maintenance on all systems
  • Monitors and regulates control system with the engineering staff. Operates gas turbines, heat recovery steam generators, boilers, and mechanical systems
  • Reads blueprints and analyzes and tracks problems
  • Responds to all emergency situations including fire, floods, snow, and inclement weather
  • Participate in the planning, proposal, and scheduling process of maintenance requests to include administration of Computerized Maintenance Mechanic Scheduler (CMMS) maintenance records
  • Assures the safe and efficient operation of the physical plant and life safety systems in compliance with all local and national codes
  • Develops documented operating and training procedures for assigned staff and contractors
  • Provides input to annual budget development
  • Observes all safety regulations and policies
  • Performs quality control checks on all equipment and system operations and maintenance actions
  • Key position in emergency situations. Designated as an emergency employee and must report to work regardless of the university’s operating status
  • Analyzes operations and maintenance data and drafts reports for review
  • Ensures all work performed in the safest possible manner and promotes and utilizes all available and necessary Personal Protective Equipment
  • Responsible for inventory control on parts and supplies as well as submitting purchase orders for needed parts and materials
  • Responds to physical plant/facilities emergencies
  • Ensures that accurate and reliable operational records are maintained and recorded for historical purposes and to document performance metrics for the plant
  • Including completing regulatory documents concerning environmental and safety issues

What you bring:

  • Technical degree or diploma/high school diploma OR extensive military training and five (5) years’ experience in a related industry. Must demonstrate an extensive knowledge of technical and managerial capability
  • Minimum three (3) years previous experience in supervision of technical, operating or maintenance personnel
  • Experience with personnel planning, budgeting, inventory control and database handling
  • DC First Class Stationary Engineer License is helpful

Additional Information/Conditions:

  • For this position, you must have evidence of right to work in the U.S. There is no employer sponsorship of U.S. residency or work authorization with this role
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Must be available to travel up to 30% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • The position consists of 80% work indoors and 20% work outdoors, outdoor work may expose the employee to weather conditions
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Ability to adhere to the highest safety standards

  • Salary Range: $90,610 – $223,210, annually
  • Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors
  • In addition to salary, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan
