Responsibilities:
Applicants must have 3 years of demonstrated experience with each of the following:
  • conducting root-cause failure analysis involving various modes of metallic failures;
  • reading and interpreting CAD designs and documentation;
  • mechanical testing techniques, optical microscopy, and using scanning electron microscope;
  • conducting fracture surface analysis to determine cause of failure;
  • testing/examination processes required to determine cause of failure;
  • metallurgical equipment and capabilities required for specific tests;
  • designing heat treatment processes specific to desired material composition;
  • presenting metallurgical findings to internal personnel and external customers;
  • writing technical failure reports including detailed findings;
  • examining specimen and determining mode of failure resulting from corrosion, fatigue, overload, shear, plastic deformation, and/or abrasion;
  • hands-on experience performing grinding, polishing, etching, surface hardness measurements, and optical examination;
  • using non-destructive testing techniques including dye penetrant testing, eddy current, and magnetic particle testing;
  • welding techniques and processes; and
  • analyzing cobalt, nickel based, copper, or other specialty alloys.
Any and all experience may be gained concurrently.

Summary of Duties:
Provide consulting services for Rod Lift engineering, manufacturing, marketing, sales, and quality departments. Enhance function, profitability or marketability of products. Perform detailed failure analyses on down-hole Rod Lift components and make recommendations to prevent or minimize reoccurrence. Ensure required duties are fulfilled within Rod Lift Metallurgist team at a high level of efficiency. Administer technical metallurgical support for engineering, manufacturing, marketing and sales and quality departments. Present analyses of parts and assemblies relating to material quality issues, failure analysis, and product improvement. Plan, conduct, track and report materials engineering investigations. Recommend and specify materials for specific design and field applications. Prepare materials and process specifications for welding, material, coating, and heat treat operations. Ensure proper equipment is in place within metallurgical laboratory for required duties and is kept in proper working order. Serve as subject-matter expert for any material concerns in sucker rod or rod pump component manufacturing plants. Evaluate materials and develop processes to manufacture materials for use in products that meet specialized design and performance specifications.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering or related field of study and 3 years of experience in Metallurgical failure analysis or 3 years of experience in Metallurgy within a field sharing similar equipment loading conditions and failure modes.
