The Hall Health Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Assistant Supervisor. The position will supervise the work and coordinate the daily operations and clinical care activities for Hall Health Center (HHC) Medical Assistants

Duties:
  • Supervise the work of Medical Assistants:(approximately 50%)
  • Supervise daily operations of HHC Medical Assistant (MA) staff, including patient flow, scheduling, provider support, prescription refills, patient communications, and safety and infection control procedures
  • Assign special duties to MAs and student helpers in the Clinical Unit
  • Coordinate the provider schedules with MA staffing in conjunction with Unit Heads
  • Staff MAs within the allocated budget and staff units to ensure an efficient patient flow process that maintains satisfaction for patients and providers
  • Responsible for hiring, training and orienting new MA staff
  • Conduct performance evaluations for Medical Assistants
  • Coordinate the coverage of medical assistants throughout the practice for unscheduled and scheduled absences. Review and authorize, or check scheduled leave requests
  • Report patient flow, customer satisfaction issues, staffing inequities/concerns to administration
  • Serve as liaison between the MAs and other HHC staff; identify potential problems and facilitate resolution
  • Develop, evaluate and implement clinical policies and procedures: recommend appropriate changes to administration and ensure consistent application of policies and procedures
  • Evaluate and monitor compliance to policies and procedures for accountability
  • Serve as a resource for clinical and operational issues.
  • Develop provider schedules, phone and reference lists for clinical staff
  • Collaborate with Nurse Managers to ensure patients are given optimal care by the appropriate medical professional, and that patient safety and infection control compliance are strictly followed.

    Perform duties of a Medical Assistant (approximately 50%)

    Other Administrative Duties:

  • Serve as Point of Care Testing Coordinator and trainer for Health Center, including providers and nurses
  • Accountable for the maintenance of medical supplies/instruments inventory; coordinates program with University of Washington Medical Center Materials Management
  • Identify and schedule meetings and in-services to support the MA clinical practice
  • Coordinate Continuing Education Programs with Nurse Manager
  • Lead and schedule standing monthly staff meetings with MAs and others as appropriate to identify and solve clinical practice issues
  • Lead and coordinate the clinical activities of the Student MA externs when present
  • Provide input for performance evaluations regarding the student as requested from the instructor
  • Participate in bimonthly Unit Head/Management meeting as appropriate (e.g., Operations Committee meetings)
  • Participate as requested in organizational initiatives, (e-care, EPIC, staff appreciation, etc.)
  • This position performs an essential function to the Hall Health Center. The supervisor is expected to make every effort to report to work in the event that the University suspends operations because of severe weather, natural disaster, or other emergency condition
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Medical Assistant
    Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board
    Or Equivalent education/experience

    Legal Requirement:
  • Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation during the probationary period. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment.

    Certifications: L-CM | MEDICAL ASST CERT - WA State

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    Preferred Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma and 3 years medical assistant experience, including one year as supervisor working in a health care setting
  • Recent experience providing direct patient care in an ambulatory or emergency medicine department/acute care setting

    Competencies:

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  • Exercise good judgement and ability to advise, direct and evaluate employees
  • Work effectively with other leaders to promote Hall Health Center, and support MA unit changes as needed
  • Possess excellent customer service principles and skills
  • Ability to Interact with all levels of staff and develop effective and productive working relationships
  • Adapt clinic routines to accommodate language and cultural preferences.
  • Support clinical (triage) decisions about patient care
  • Follow established policies and procedures
  • Strictly safeguard patients’ privacy and their health records
  • Demonstrate competency in obtaining accurate vital signs and other physical assessment/ treatment skills within the scope of the MA
  • Demonstrate knowledge of normal versus abnormal clinical events and findings
  • Demonstrate consistent, accurate, and timely follow-through when processing patient requests and executing provider orders
  • Knowledge of current infection control standards and practices.
  • Consistently act in accordance with the Hall Health Center ethical, legal and organizational framework to ensure that patients’ interests and well-being are met
  • Maintain patient confidentiality, and demonstrate respects for cultural, economic, and ethnicity of patients, visitors and staff
  • Champion the UW Medicine Patients Are First Service culture, behavior and guidelines
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving knowledge and skills necessary to the MA role
  • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and skills
  • Able and willing to work flexible schedule to maintain optimum level of clinic service
