Medical Assistant Job Description
Free Primary Care Clinic
I. Title
Medical Assistant
II. Overall Responsibility
Provide basic supportive primary health care services under the direction of the
Lead Clinician and the Executive Director.
III. Accountability
Accountable to and receives direction from the Lead Clinician or other designated staff.
IV. Responsibilities
A. Sustaining and supporting patients during diagnosis and treatment. Undertake necessary lab work, initial patient intake form review and vitals and appropriate history, symptoms, complaint of patient.
B. Report to Lead Clinician, Executive Director or provider as needed for quality patient care and efficient clinic operations.
C. Maintain laboratory in compliance with CLIA, OSHA and Safety Manual standards; including cleaning of exam rooms and laboratory.

D. Referral of patients as necessary to other health providers and/or social service agencies as directed by the provider.
E. Maintain patient demographic/clinical database.
F. Oversee general laboratory functions to assure that instruments are autoclaves, and all laboratory supplies, equipment and tests are on hand and sufficient for patient care.
G. Maintain Universal Precautions at all times.
H. Other duties as may be assigned by Executive Director or provider, as needed or required.
V. Skills and Knowledge Required
A. Thorough knowledge of the role of Medical Assistant.
B. Skills in interpersonal, community and group relations.
C. Ability to exercise sound leadership and judgment.
D. Bilingual language skills, English and Spanish preferred.
E. Processing patients to see physician/physician’s assistant/nurse practitioner.
1. Take vital signs.
2. Document patient’s reason for seeking health care including duration of the problem and associated symptoms.
3. The following procedures may be performed by an MA at the clinic: a. EKG's b. Assisting provider with pelvic exams c. Blood sugars by Glucometer d. Assisting provider with minor surgery e. Venipuncture f. Pregnancy tests g. Conducting clia-waived diagnostic tests
VI. Physical Requirements
Physical demands are generally described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body). The Medical Assistant must be able to observe safe practice criteria in assisting patients. The Medical Assistant must be able to safely support the full weight of a patient when necessary. a. VII. Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program and experience preferred
VIII. Salary
Salary commensurate with education and experience
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $13.00 - $14.00 per hour
