Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems
has an opening for a Manager Material Handling 1 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.

This position is located at our Clearfield, Utah facility.

Role description & Responsibilities:

Supervises employees who use a variety of equipment such as forklifts, conveyers, cranes, hand carts, and power trucks to move materials, parts, assemblies, and finished products or goods within a plant, office, or warehouse. Oversees the processing, packaging, and storage of supplies, materials, and equipment. May assist in selecting appropriate containers and wrapping methods for materials to be shipped or stored. Coordinates with engineers, shippers, carton manufacturers, and carpenters for special crating and packing requirements. Supervises employees who maintain records and check invoices/bills of lading.


This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. Some overtime may be required.

Daily efforts will include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the coordination and movement of material, hardware, and finished goods throughout multiple sites while ensuring process/procedural compliance safeguarding both personnel and product
  • Manage overall group to ensure Safety, Quality, Delivery, Employee, Cost targets are achieved.
  • Monitor work operations and actively assist or provide direction to subordinates in the following areas;
  • Storeroom - oversee the receipt, issuing, and delivery of Contract inventory.
  • Vendor Managed Inventory - oversee the stocking, issuing, and delivery of contracted materials to production lines utilizing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP - CostPoint) and Pick Ticket Application
  • Provide direction to all subordinates using established policies and procedures; ensure subordinate work is reviewed for adequacy in meeting cost and quality objectives
  • Schedule equipment and personnel to manage customer demands for the production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements
  • Form partnerships and act as an agent between material planners, storekeepers and Production control
  • Oversee employees, processes, and equipment and warehouses including:
    CostPoint and Pick Ticket Application
  • Utilize asset smart software to ensure all property is moved per policies and procedures to help maintain accurate property records. Assist in moves where necessary
  • Coordinate interdepartmental activity with manufacturing, engineering, handling, production control, etc.
  • Advise leadership of the status of work in progress, equipment available, and potential material issues to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed
  • May perform on-going operational tasks of organizational groups or be assigned to teams working on sector level tasks, projects or process changes/improvements
  • Interface with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), manufacturing supervision and site leadership to support program/site needs, process improvements, and resource management

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED and a minimum of 5 years of experience in materials management, distribution, or warehouse environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and special program access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the business
  • Prior experience leading a team, project; ability to mentor and motivate others
  • Inventory Control and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) experience (CostPoint preferred)
  • Extensive knowledge of storing and managing inventory with shelf-life requirements and tight environmental controls
  • Ability to work across disciplines to influence change to improve operational efficiency
  • Experience supporting complex shipping and logistical requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to lead safety initiatives to drive a culture of a safety-first environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Knowledge of Lean/PES/Six Sigma principles
  • CostPoint experience

Salary Range: $79,900 USD - $119,900 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
