Job description

Responsible for ensuring that the facilities, layout, and machinery used to produce new and existing materials and goods run to their maximum efficiency and output. This includes total preventive maintenance, managing breakdowns of mechanical and robotic equipment. Includes people management and budgetary/cost reporting.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of up to 9 employees – with responsibility for interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisals and discipline.
  • Ensure adherence to company safety standards, policies, and procedures. Ensure maintenance staff correctly wears and uses safety equipment, as required. Also, ensures that all safety inspections are completed as required.
  • Work with manufacturing, maintenance, and compliance managers to conduct regular on-site safety meetings and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, Workers’ Compensation, and Hazard Communications. Ensure that all hazardous materials are properly labeled, stored, and handled.
  • Maintain systems for monitoring and tracking service requests, preventive maintenance work performed compliance with Hazard Communications program requirements, compliance with safety requirements, supplies and parts inventories, purchases, and turn-key operations.
  • Keep storage and shop areas in a neat, well-stocked, clean, organized manner.
  • Maintain sufficient inventories of tools, parts, and supplies to properly maintain the equipment and facility.
  • Order and purchase supplies, equipment and contract work according to required purchasing and bidding procedures.
  • Prioritize and schedule maintenance employees according to forecasted workloads.
  • Work with the maintenance manager to hire, train and develop on-site maintenance employees according to company policy and procedure.
  • Work with the manufacturing manager to counsel and review maintenance employees as necessary and as required by company policy and procedure.
  • Work with maintenance employees and other staff to develop an effective, proactive team that works together to achieve maintenance objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to plant wide service standards. Work with maintenance staff to ensure that maintenance issues are dealt with in a timely manner and that proper follow-through is done.
  • Interact with the other departments to ensure the proper functioning of all systems.
  • Actively participate with the plant’s safety committee.

Essential Skills:

  • A minimum of ten years in the Maintenance/Engineering field and three years supervisory experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma with additional courses in electrical, plumbing, building maintenance and machine operation. Knowledge of HVAC is preferred.
  • Reasoning ability; mechanical abilities; troubleshooting abilities; computer skills.
  • Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.
  • Should have good leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate team members.
  • Other qualifications we’re looking for include tow motor operation, blueprint reading, safety – fire extinguisher, First Aid, CPR etc.
