In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.

The Wisconsin DNR is hiring two LTE – Fisheries Technicians headquartered at our service center in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

Position Summary


Fisheries Technician - Creel Survey clerk: Independently or under general supervision, these positions will perform creel survey clerk duties and collect fish information on designated waters. The Creel Survey Clerks will count and interview anglers; record data; and measure, weigh, and identify fish caught. These positions will also be responsible for compiling and analyzing data, preparing written documentation and/or reports as well as assisting other fisheries staff with fish surveys. The main work duties for these positions will be conducting creel surveys on Petenwell Lake.

70% - Independently or under general supervision perform creel survey clerk duties and collect fish information on designated waters. Interview anglers; record data; measure, weigh, and identify fish caught.

20% - Compile and analyze data and prepare written documentation and/or reports.

10% - Assist WDNR fisheries staff with other field work.

Salary Information


$15.00 per hour

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.

LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.

In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Qualifications


Required:
  • Ability to accurately identify common inland fish
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and punctual
- Ability to approach anglers where they commonly fish - this includes boat, piers and breakwaters, rocky shorelines, open sand, cobble beaches, and along streams and rivers over uneven terrain
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and to work weekends, early morning and late evening hours according to an irregular assigned schedule
Preferred:
  • Completion of fisheries related college courses
  • Previous volunteer or work experience in fisheries
  • Experience with data entry and analyses in Microsoft Excel
