Position Summary

The Local Programs Manager – CDF Marlboro County of CDF Freedom Schools® will serve as the primary support to local programming across Marlboro County, SC and manage all grants, including 21st Century and NY Life Foundation. This person will manage the local program operations to ensure staff members execute an action plan for effective summer and after school program implementation. The Local Programs Manager –CDF Marlboro County will identify and onboard qualified program staff, provide oversight and effectives upport regarding program operations, and ensure all data and reports are completed/submitted to remain compliant with funder expectations. The Local Programs Manager – CDF Marlboro County coordinates the work of the local program staff and serves as an active member of the Marlboro County community and school district.

The Local Programs Manager – CDF Marlboro County of CDF Freedom Schools will be a dynamic, thoughtful, and mission-driven leader with strong management and organizational skills. This person will excel in balancing internal management with external impact and visibility. In addition to direct experience managing programs, leading staff, creating systems and tools for effectiveness, and managing publicly- and privately funded education or social service programs, the Local Programs Manager – CDF Marlboro County will demonstrate a commitment to the well-being of all children, especially those in marginalized communities; and be an outstanding communicator able to effectively convey the local programs' mission to a variety of stakeholders and engage them in the programs, activities, and advocacy work of the Children's Defense Fund on the local level.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee program efforts for all Marlboro County, SC programs to include, but not limited to hiring staff, developing training and curriculum, maintaining paperwork, preparing for state evaluations, etc.
  • Manage/Coordinate local program staff to meet all deliverables and goals.
  • Manage program budgets to meet all deliverables and goals.
  • Design and implement training programs for Ella Baker Trainers, local program staff, and CDF Freedom Schools stakeholders as needed.
  • Provide structured leadership development activities and hands-on skill building opportunities to advance the work of CDF.
  • Support grant writing processes to secure funding for local programming as needed
  • Support Children's Defense Fund Freedom Schools program development and implementation through provision of training and technical assistance on the local level.
  • Ensure the fidelity of program implementation on the local level; as measured by program evaluations, monitoring visits, and assessments.
  • Represent the Children's Defense Fund at conferences, professional development programs, and other local/public forums, as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain meaningful partnerships to support local programming efforts.
  • Work with CDF communications staff to identify proactive media opportunities to promote the local work.
  • Support the national CDF Freedom Schools work as needed, to include but not limited to Cvent operations, training logistics, volunteer oversight, etc.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in an educational or social science discipline
  • Prior experience working in a CDF Freedom Schools site is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in young adult training/development, developing training materials and/or implementing training efforts for various age levels
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: project management, cultural organizing, community organizing (youth, faith community, or parents is a plus), policy advocacy, racial equity, or base-building.
