Reporting to the Unit Technical Manager, the lead technologist provides appropriate support and education directly involved in the coordination of programs to include quality assurance and staff training.


Collaborates with radiologists, departmental leadership, and staff to ensure that protocols, patient care processes, dosing and image quality are optimized and are based on the principle of delivering care to all ages. Assist in third party accreditation processes such as ACR, Joint Commission, etc.


Performs all diagnostic examinations per protocol and has an advanced understanding of SPECT & PETCT technology. The individual must demonstrate problem solving skills, organizational skills, exceptional communication skills to provide guidance and training to staff.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Performs all duties of a NucMed/CT Technologist position (refer to Tech, NucMed/CT 000785 job description) within Nuclear Medicine Department to maintain optimal direct patient care skills as well as imaging skills.


  • Demonstrates advanced skills and serves as a resource for questions regarding nuclear medicine imaging.
  • Provides support to all technical and related nuclear medicine personnel; monitors performance and coordinates on-going training, as applicable; ensures procedural documentation is completed properly.
  • Assists in the training and precepting of new employees and student interns. Must meet all preceptor and mentorship requirements.
  • Communicates and coordinates with staff regarding equipment problems, patient delays and other like information.
  • Functions as a liaison between physicians and support staff, explaining departmental procedures, resolving problems and coordinating activities which affect patient care.
  • Ensures proper stock of supplies needed for operations and communicates deficiencies to Technical manager.
  • Participates in clinical projects including, but not limited to: gain expertise for new exams performed in the department, gain expertise on new equipment in department, trouble shoot equipment, place service calls, PACS Quality Assurance.
  • With appropriate competency-based training and documentation, responsible for a higher level of clinical ability to include but not limited to neonate/pediatric imaging and radioactive therapies. Performs all exams with expertise.
  • Exhibits excellence in delivering customer service.
  • Works in collaboration with Operations Manager for educating and training staff on protocols, proper use of equipment and safety initiatives. Assists in preparing educational presentations for ongoing staff training.
  • Collaborates with the Operations Manager to ensure that the department meets all accrediting agency and hospital standards (e.g. JC, ACR, DPH, CMS, USP).
  • Works in collaboration with the Operations Manager to ensure appropriate and timely scheduling of all specialty nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Monitors daily QC reports and confirms accuracy of archived images.

  • Proficient in all applicable computer systems and imaging devices
  • Excellent, effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 50lbs, be able to lift, position, push or transfer patients, have manual dexterity and mobility, be able to see clearly at 20 feet or more, be able to see clearly at 20 inches or less, be able to judge distance and space relationships, be able to see peripherally, and be able to distinguish and identify different colors.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served (all age groups) on assigned unit.
  • Ability to foster and promote a positive image and a professional appearance.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS:

Radiologic Tech License, MA

ARRT or NMTCB

  • CT certification required within 1 year of hire date. Employees who fail to obtain certification within 1 year will be given a 60-day grace period to achieve certification. If they are unable to obtain certification after 14 months (12 months and 2-month grace period) they will be terminated for failure to maintain certification.

BLS

BS degree in NM Technology preferred or BS in unrelated field with a certificate in NM Technology preferred
