Lead Teacher (2 yr classroom)
Job Summary
Under supervision of the Site Director, responsible for the total classroom operation per Federal Head Start Performance Standard 1304.21 and any additional standard referring to classroom activity. Provides day-to-day direction of assigned Teacher II and is responsible for involving the Teacher II in planning and execution of daily classroom activities.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Comply with the education content mandates of the Head Start Performance Standards, program assessment, and work plans.
- Administer Ages and Stages Questionnaires for initial developmental screening.
- Utilize Curriculum software to track each child’s ongoing developmental skill level in the domains as required by the Head Start Performance Standards.
- Utilize CAP-selected classroom support model to assist with classroom management.
- Work cooperatively with all CAP employees, Family Support personnel, Parents, Volunteers and collaborative partners.
- Conduct at least two home visits and parent conferences, per child, within the allotted time period. Participate in Family Child Review meetings once a month or as required.
- Develop a daily schedule and weekly lesson plans based on observations, parental input, and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Develop goals utilizing individualization form to meet each child’s developmental needs.
- Complete required documentation including, but not limited to: Monthly Reports, Attendance, InKind, Meal Count, Family Contacts, and Child Injury Reports.
- Meet Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC accreditation standards and DHS licensing requirements.
- Understand and utilize Agency curriculum for developmentally appropriate instruction.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Associates Degree (unrelated) and on plan to obtain CDA within 1 year
OR
Bachelors Degree (unrelated and on plan to obtain CDA within 1 year
PLUS
4 modules of PITC training must be completed within the first year of employment or transfer into this age group
2 year old classroom
(OECP Funded Rooms)
Associates Degree (unrelated) and on plan to obtain CDA within one year
OR
Bachelors Degree (unrelated and on plan to obtain CDA within one year
PLUS
4 modules of PITC training must be completed within the first year of employment or transfer into this age group
0-23 month classroom
(EHS Funded Rooms)
CDA and on plan to obtain Associate's Degree in ECE by 2019
PLUS
4 modules of PITC training must be completed within the first year of employment
2 year old classroom
(EHS Funded Rooms)
CDA and on plan to obtain Associates Degree in ECE by 2019
PLUS
4 modules of PITC training must be completed within the first year of employment
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Must have proven successful interpersonal relationship skills to maintain effective and satisfactory working relationships with intra-department and inter-department staff, vendors, clients, visitors, and contractors.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions with ability to read, interpret, and present information efficiently and effectively.
- Must be able to accurately audit records and ensure compliance with written or oral guidelines.
- Ability to take initiative, multi-task and work well under pressure.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality of extremely sensitive data, records, files, conversations, etc.
- Advanced organizational skills, efficiency skills and excellent attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to completing assignments on a timely basis.
Essential Physical & Mental Requirements
Classroom position with some local travel (exposure to normal traffic hazards). Work requires bending, stooping, lifting, squatting, kneeling, crawling, stretching, pushing and pulling throughout the day. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Regular and reliable attendance required.
