The Lead Mission Support Threat Engineer role serves as a leader of a team responsible for MDA test event contributions, missile threat modeling, and threat model verification and validation of threat representations across the kinematic, RF, and IR signature domains. The EO/IR Hardbody Modeling tools simulate all phases of flight, and enhancements are developed to respond to changing Missile Defense System requirements and evolving threat characteristics. This specialized position requires a detail-oriented engineer with demonstrated leadership characteristics who can effectively lead a team that is responsible for capturing and documenting requirements as they pertain all modeling disciplines pertaining to missiles as well as evaluating missile threat models for use in a variety of modeling and simulation tools/frameworks/media.

The ideal candidate must have a good understanding of modeling and simulation methods and processes. Must be familiar with missile concepts and physics behind missile motion, and how it affects signature representations. The Mission Support Threat Engineer Lead will be directly involved with discussions and collaborations with our customers, threat stakeholders, and intelligence analysts accountable for capturing requirements to develop and deliver accurate and relevant threat models. The selected individual must be able to work with little to no direct supervision, lead a product delivery team, and facilitate meeting time critical delivery schedules

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Lead a large team of inter-disciplinary engineers and subject matter expects on the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC) in the area of threat missile system requirements derivation, modeling and simulation, and verification and validation across the CAD, kinematic, radio frequency, infrared hard body, and infrared plume disciplines
  • Communicate directly with the government customer on the contract and well as MDA test event stakeholders, scenario designers, integration leads, and accreditation groups
  • Work directly with intelligence centers to coordinate and obtain relevant threat missile system assessments and data, identify data gaps, and orchestrate modeling of desired threat missile systems
  • Identify innovative automation solutions and techniques for producing required MDA test event deliverables and threat models
  • Review and approve deliverables produced by the Mission Support Threat Engineering team
  • Track and report team member charging, deliverable status, performance, and program or team metrics
  • Provides software engineering, technical, and managerial direction for problem definition, analysis, requirement development and implementation for complex systems in the engineering discipline required to meet technical requirements
  • Makes recommendations and advises on system development, improvements, optimization, or support efforts.

  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience with Modeling & Simulation, RF and/or EO/IR systems, engineering for aerospace systems, or direct involvement with Missile Defense Systems, Radars, and Physics-based engineering related to IR, flight profiles, and signatures.
  • Modeling, Simulation, and automation experience
  • Previous experience modeling or simulating signature profiles and responses in the IR signature and RF domains
  • Familiarity with the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of missile systems
  • Familiarity with hard body heating of objects and their corresponding signature representation
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment
  • Must already possess an active DoD Secret clearance in order to start work

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong math, physics or engineering background is highly preferred
  • Previous experience with analyzing flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters of ballistic missiles is highly desirable
  • Strong background in missile systems engineering principles or performance is highly desirable
  • Mastery of engineering modeling principles behind body motion, trajectory analysis, counter measures, debris, and signature modeling is a plus
