Position Summary:

We are seeking a Materials Lead to support the Personal Care sector in Neenah, Wisconsin. This role is a member of the Research and Engineering (R&E) team, developing and implementing new product, process, material, or technology concepts. This role will work with fast moving Personal Care consumable products. The incumbent reports to a Team Leader and receives direction in the form of specific project and innovation pipeline objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with product teams to understand business innovation plans. Utilize the business innovation plans to lead development specifically in the Absorbent Development function.
  • Work with product developers, process development engineers and other materials scientists to secure, develop, and commercialize improved or new materials.
  • Project leadership responsibility in one or more projects as well as support roles in one or more other projects.
  • Provide leadership in the design, development, and optimization of, typically, Nonwoven and Absorbent Materials for consumer product solutions, supporting the K-C brand plans.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and key material suppliers to develop relationships and technologies to accelerate innovation to our consumers
  • Coordinate material development activities with key suppliers and production locations with mainly North American implementation, but also internationally, as required.
  • Mentor junior scientists.
  • Provide leadership in the design, development, and optimization of, typically, Nonwoven and Absorbent Materials for consumer product solutions, supporting the K-C brand plans.
  • Ensure all work complies with corporate safety, regulatory, product safety, and sustainability requirements.
  • Work independently and progress with limited instruction and as part of a larger cross functional team.

Influence:

The incumbent will interact daily with the R&E community consisting of product, process, and material experts. This team is accountable for the development through launch phases of improved or new materials the deliver on consumer needs. The incumbent will provide leadership and decision making from the material perspective to the overall project leader as input into the business approval stages and gates process. Weekly the incumbent will influence vendors and partner with procurement, supply chain, safety, regulatory, and legal as required by project needs.

To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of industry experience in research or engineering, product/material development, project management roles or other related experience.
  • A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and across functional boundaries to complete projects within required timeframes.
  • Exceptional skills effectively communicating/translating complex technical concepts to others.
  • Travel up to 15% if needed, including some international travel.

Preferred:

  • Experience with vendor management.
  • Experience analyzing material properties and impact on product performance.
  • Experience in materials development including translating material development needs from prototype to commercial scale demonstrations, completing material and product validations.
  • Experience leading material and product commercial launch activities with global manufacturing partners.
  • International experience in a global organization.
