Job Summary:

At the direction of the Chief and/or Director Radiology/Imaging Services, the Lead Technologist oversees the technical staff in a designated section(s) of the Radiology Department. The Lead Technologist oversees technical procedures, patient care, and workflow,to ensure safe and effective patient care. The Lead Technologist assists in the development of budgets and in operating within the set budgets. The Lead Technologistperforms the duties of a Technologist and acts as a role model and facilitator working in collaboration with all levels of departmental personnel in the spirit of Mid-Hudson Valley Staffco, LLC VITAL values.

Responsibilities:

Competently operates all units of the sections imaging equipment while performing high quality procedures in a safe and efficient manner. Demonstrates knowledge of all current procedures and trends. Acts as a consultant to physicians, nurses and departmental staff. Assists Radiologists, Nursing and/or other staff as needed in the performance of procedures. Monitors the department QC/QA program. Ensures completion of ALL required testing and documentation. Takes appropriate corrective action as needed. Actively participates in ongoing departmental services, development and implementation. Promotes the effective utilization of all departmental equipment. Instructs Physicians and assigned staff in computer system operation and software application. Assures adherence to all standards of patient care for departmental staff members. Coordinates and assures adequate staffing by implementing and monitoring staff schedules androom assignments to include call coverage to meet patient care needs. Assures adequate scheduling of procedures with other hospital departments in order to facilitate patient care. Assures all procedures are properly ordered, tracked and charged. Takes appropriate action to correct as needed. Orders supplies and equipment to maintain determined stock levels per department protocols to ensure efficient department operations. Adjusts par levels based upon statistical variations. Identifies cost saving opportunities. Actively assists in the development and adherence to all departmental budgets. Reviews monthly assigned expense account and justifies variance to Immediate Supervisor/Director. Identifies cost saving measures. Completes payroll in adherence to hospital protocol and addresses time and attendance issues as per Hospital policy. Monitors staff implementation of Departmental/ Hospital Policies and procedures. Reviews, revise, and maintains Polices and Procedures for area(s) of responsibility with the assistance of the immediate Supervisor and/or Director. Maintains departmental records as required by Local, State and Federal Regulations. Demonstrates effective leadership abilities in the direction of departmental staff members. Conducts counseling in an objective and consistent manner. Ensures adequate orientation of newly hired Personnel. Provides leadership to others outside area of responsibility as needed. Demonstrates effective decision making in clinical and administrative situations. Participates in the evaluation equipment as requested by immediate supervisor/Director. Assists immediate Supervisor with interviews and Hiring of Departmental personnel. Performs all assigned staff annual performance Appraisals within specified time frames.. Ensures staff involvement in the departmental Quality Improvement Plan. Attends at least 12 hours of job related Continuing Education annually. Performs On-Call Duties and or works variable shifts as needed to meet the needs of the department. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications/Requirements: EXPERIENCE Minimum of three (3) years progressive technical experience at least one modality within area of responsibility. EDUCATION Completion of an MRI approved program. CPR certification. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Registered in MRI by the ARRT/RMRIT Appropriate Federal, State and local licensing requirements. OTHER If applicable, the individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials. Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control. Ability to implement technical and organizational changes necessary to meet departmental needs. Ability to effectively integrate clinical and administrative issues. Demonstrated ability to effectively function as a health care team member. Demonstrated skills necessary to perform teaching and leadership duties as required within the job description. Demonstrated effective communication skills and ability to work effectively and efficiently in stressful situations.
