MLT or MT on 2nd shift or 3rd Shift, alternating weekends and some holidays.
Excellent Hourly Rate & Generous additional Shift Differential for 7pm - 7am.

JOB SUMMARY
Performs a variety of laboratory tests onsite 100% of the time. Many test of which are complex, involves numerous steps and techniques, and requires use of independent judgement, Professional application of the principles, theories, and techniques of medical technology are used to produce reliable test results, which aid the physician in diagnosis and treatment of the patient.


QUALIFICATIONS

A. EDUCATION: An Associate of Science (Medical Laboratory Technician [MLT]) degree in Medical technology or related Science and appropriate work experience. A registered Technician is one has passed a registry exam via a recognized agency such as ASCP, ISCLT, CLA, HEW or equivalent.

B. TRAINING: On-the-job training and orientation is provided for 2-4 weeks with completion at 3 months.

C. EXPERIENCE: Experience is preferred but none required.

D. JOB KNOWLEDGE: A clear understanding of principles and procedures of medical technology. Has the knowledge of age specific requirements relating to the physical and psychological needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The job requires a variety of positions and movements. The job requires the ability to walk to various departments or patient's rooms, to climb stairs, to lift up to and including 45 pounds. Note: An elevator is available if unable to use the stairs. When performing procedures or operating analyzers under some circumstances standing for several hours may be required. The ability to obtain blood samples is required which involves bending or kneeling at a patients beside. Employee will participate in and demonstrate proper lifts at a lifting training orientation and at refresher lifting training programs. The employee may be required to work overtime hours exceeding 40 hours/week or may be on call. The job will require working weekends. In emergency situations may be called in to cover a shift.

5. Pulling/Pushing: 1-2% of the time

6. Sitting: 10-20% of the time

7. Hearing: acceptable to perform duties of position

8. Vision: must pass a colorblindness test.


WORK PERFORMED

  • Performs venipunctures, capillary and arterial punctures. 5 %
  • Process specimens for appropriate area to be tested. 5 %
  • Performs laboratory tests. 60 %
  • Performs calibration and daily QC of analyzers and reagents. 10 %
  • Completes preventative maintenance checklists. 5 %
  • Enters orders in LIS 5 %
  • Interprets results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. 10 %
