Position Summary

Pinehurst Medical Clinic is seeking a Lab Assistant/Specimen Processor to join our central processing lab at our East location in Pinehurst, NC. This position plays a key role in patient care working with our providers in providing the best in patient care by processing receives specimens collected at various sites throughout the clinic system for distribution to the correct processing department or to be sent to a reference laboratory for testing. This is a full-time day shift position and does not require weekend or holiday hours

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Ensure receipt of properly labeled, collected, and preserved specimens for laboratory testing.
• Prepares specimens for immediate analysis or shipment to a reference laboratory for testing.
• Able to perform Order Entry in LIS, EMR, and possibly HIS systems.
• Accurately research disposition of specimen and or test results.
• Able to collect patient specimens when required; venous and capillary blood collection, urine and/or stool collection. MUST be able to properly identify the patient using two separate identifiers.
• Properly label all collected specimens with at least three identifiers.
• Act as the Laboratory’s liaison to all healthcare employees, including providers within and outside of the organization.
• Inventories supplies and places orders.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education (Including Licenses and Certifications):

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Completion of an approved community college-based phlebotomy training program is preferred.
• Active phlebotomy certification desired

Experience:

• Previous phlebotomy, specimen processing, and/or laboratory assistant experience is preferred
