The Learning & Academic Resources department of the Long Beach City College District is seeking qualified individuals for a current opportunity as an Instructional Lab Support Technician. This incumbent supervises and ensures the efficient operations of the Academic Computing Center; troubleshoots a variety of computer lab hardware, software, and peripherals; creates and maintains a proper academic environment in the computer lab; provides technical assistance to students accessing instructional resources; supervises student assistants and work-study students; and performs related duties as assigned.   • Salary: Range 30 $(4,708.09 - $5,798.12 Monthly)
  • Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Duties

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, supervises and ensures the efficient operations of assigned department computer labs; troubleshoots a variety of computer lab hardware, software and peripherals; creates and maintains proper academic environment in computer labs; provides technical assistance to students performing research and accessing instructional resources; supervises student assistants and work study students; and performs related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Instructional Lab Support Technicians are responsible for supervising and managing the daily operations of an assigned computer lab, and providing hardware and software technical support to students completing academic work. Incumbents are also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, order and security of computer lab facility and equipment. Incumbents typically supervise the work of assigned student assistants, work study students, and limited term staff.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

Education, Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and two years of increasingly responsible experience in a computer lab environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

A valid California driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance policy.

Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed

Incomplete or late applications will be disqualified from further consideration. Qualified candidates will be notified in writing if they are moving forward in the selection process.

Unofficial transcripts are accepted during this phase. For experience substitution in lieu of education, please make sure to attach a statement clearly outlining how your additional experience covers the education requirement, on a year-for-year basis, and qualifies you to be considered for this position.
  • If you participate in and fail any examination segment, you must wait a period of 90 days (~3 months) to test again for the same classification.

The following examination segments may be utilized during the selection process:

  • Minimum Qualifications Screening: (Pass/Fail)
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) application review: (Pass/Fail)
  • Oral Panel Interview: (100%)
  • Final Interview: With Hiring Authority and Committee
