POSITION SUMMARY
The Clerk’s Office of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey is seeking a motivated, independent thinker/worker as well as a customer-oriented and team-focused individual for a full-time Information Technology
Technician position. The technician is a member of the IT department and is under the general direction of the
Director of Information Technology and the local Systems Supervisor. The technician will perform professional work related to providing routine support for end users and provide technical support for moderately complex troubleshooting for hardware and software systems. The position will, as part of a team, support approximately 535 desktop/laptop systems and 85 mobile devices used by 300 Court personnel, including Judges.

**Note: Weekly travel will be required to the Trenton office in coordination with the technical team.
Travel to other divisional offices, as needed. Depending on required coverage, projects and the needs of the Court, extended time may be needed at a specific office. Travel milage and tolls will be reimbursed as allowed per Judiciary travel regulations.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Performs tasks such as PC management and helpdesk support, including but not limited to receiving and responding to end-user requests, installing, and repairing hardware and software, onboarding of new users, desktop imaging, performing end-user support and training, litigation support, assisting in implementing automation plans, maintaining documentation, maintaining local IT inventory, aiding with network administration, all in accordance with Court IT Security policies and procedures.
  • Responds to help desk calls and e-mails, log computer problems in KACE ticket system, and assist with routine problems. Provides assistance and support to end users on applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel,

Teams, Adobe and court-specific applications. Assists with creating user accounts and providing end-user training.

  • Installs or assists in the installation of new software and software upgrades. Sets up, configures, installs, and documents hardware and software.
  • Performs routine and scheduled maintenance, including testing equipment to ensure all systems are operating correctly. Monitors user concerns to ensure satisfactory experiences.
  • Maintains contact with other IT team members at different levels and locations for the purpose of keeping abreast of developments, techniques, and user programs.
  • Ensures inventory changes are reported to the Custodial Officer.
  • Works in a demanding environment and travels to other divisional offices is required.
  • Assists with AV and courtroom technology, sets up video conferencing, audio visual equipment, courtroom sound, evidence presentation equipment, streaming media, and recording.
  • Perform other duties as needed and as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for the position of Information Technology Technician, a candidate must:

(1) Have a high school diploma with higher education, such as an associate degree or subject matter certificate.
(2) Also, one-year experience with progressive technical responsibilities related to the primary subject matter.
(3) To qualify for the CL 24 – CL 26 level, at least one year of specialized experience is required.

Generalized experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that demonstrates the possession of or the ability to acquire, the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. This includes but is not limited to knowledge of professional office procedures, excellent customer service initiatives and excellent organizational, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.

Specialized experience includes progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience requiring the regular and recurring application of clerical procedures that demonstrate the ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, and laws that involve the routine use of specialized terminology and automated software and equipment for word processing, data entry and report generation.

Must be able to work during non-business hours, as required, to complete urgent projects or prevent disruption to court proceedings or special events; Ability to travel to provide alternate office support; Must have reliable transportation for travel; Moving and lifting weights that commensurate with the weight of equipment associated with the job duties is essential.

COURT PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
The successful candidate should be a professional who is a self-starter, dependable, friendly, motivated, organized, detailed- oriented and possess good judgment with accountability for their work product. Possess high ethical standards. Must demonstrate ability to work on multiple tasks, be flexible and tactful when working under pressure individually and in a team environment. Ability to follow Information Technology security standards and the ability to assist with PC and mobile systems on-the-fly is necessary. The ability to work independently and harmoniously with a team is essential .

  • Microsoft Windows and Security certifications (for ex. MSCA, CompTIA).
  • Former work with government entities, particularly the federal judiciary, is highly valued experience.
  • Knowledge of anti-virus, anti-malware, application controls, threat protection and endpoint security controls. Understanding of incident response processes, including the ability to implement plans and procedures as directed by the system supervisors and/or Director. Ability to identify and analyze security risks, advise the supervisors, and implement solutions.
  • Some knowledge/experience with SharePoint is a plus.

Applicant must demonstrate customer service skills, troubleshooting skills, the ability to work in a team environment, and interact directly with all levels of court personnel and other agencies. Excellent written and verbal skills in order to explain technical issues clearly and patiently to non-technical users, write effective instructions for users, and document issues and solutions. The ability to communicate effectively with various individuals, focusing on customers (internal/external), respecting others, the uniqueness of the federal judiciary and acting with integrity are all essential skills.

Applicant must have advanced knowledge and responsible workplace experience with Windows desktop, MS Office products, and Adobe Acrobat; Prior experience providing phone, remote, and in-person help/service desk support;

Experience with Teams collaboration sites/channels and video conferencing; Knowledge of networking fundamentals;
Critical thinking, attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to independently research and make recommendations; Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, follow through, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; Ability to adjust priorities.

Knowledge of endpoint security software and controls. Understanding of incident response processes, including the ability to implement plans and procedures as directed by his/her supervisor. Ability to identify and analyze security risks, bring it to the attention of his/her supervisor and to implement resolutions.
