About Economic Studies: The Economic Studies program analyzes current and emerging economic issues facing the United States and the world and, based on that research, provides innovative, practical policy recommendations. ES’s work covers a broad array of economic issues, including the labor market, regulation, health policy, the environment, and fiscal and monetary policy. Economic Studies scholars influence key economic policies by conducting rigorous and relevant research and then disseminating and communicating their findings to the policy community and to the broader public.
Position Location: This position is hybrid. Hybrid positions combine regular in-person presence at our Washington, DC office with the option of at least two days of remote work each week.
Vaccine Policy: Brookings requires all staff to submit proof of complete vaccination against COVID-19 to be in Brookings buildings.

Responsibilities:
The Impact and Analytics Manager leads the Economic Studies (ES) program’s efforts to monitor, evaluate, and measure the impact of our work. They play a critical role in developing and articulating the program’s impact models, communicating the impact of our work to internal and external audiences, and strengthening our culture around impact. They are the primary administrator for the ES program’s CRM database application, Quickbase, and serve as the in-house expert on analytics related to the program’s output, activities, and impact. They also support the effective and impactful work of the program in other ways as assigned. This individual is collaborative, solutions-oriented, and creative in helping the ES program develop systems, processes, and narratives to understand and tell the story of our impact.

Tracking, Measuring, and Reporting Impact
(50%)
- In consultation with ES leadership, manages the development and implementation of the ES program’s efforts to monitor, evaluate, and report on impact for both internal and external audiences
- Routinely collects impact data, beyond traditional metrics like page views and media hits, and uses it to create compelling narratives about the outcomes of our work
- Supports ongoing efforts to optimize data collection and broader access to data through Quickbase
- Tracks and proactively shares metrics related to ES work to optimize content strategy
- Manages and ensures appropriate and timely follow-up on internal and external requests for information involving impact data or stories
- Proactively engages ES researchers to learn more about the outcomes of their work and make connections across themes and audiences
- Actively participates in internal and external planning meetings, listening sessions, and events to gather data and develop a deep understanding of the ES program’s work and impact models
- Collaborates closely with members of ES Development, ES Communications, and research teams to create compelling narratives about the outcomes and impact of ES work for use in grant reports, annual/institutional reports, and other products
Impact Strategy, Design, and Planning (30%)
- Works with ES Development, ES Communications, and individual research teams to design impact strategies for proposed research and other projects, including setting feasible and realistic timelines for impact data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Identifies relevant lessons and adjustments from previous projects to incorporate into strategies and proposals for future projects
- Reviews impact criteria set by funders and potential funders in the proposal process and supports the design of plans to meet those criteria
Quickbase Administrator (20%)
- Acts as the primary administrator for the ES Hub in Quickbase, keeping it up-to-date with publications, media mentions, web traffic data, and impact anecdotes
- Conducts regular data backups and quality checks in Quickbase
- Maintains QuickBase functionality, pages, reports, and dashboards
- Supports Quickbase users in day-to-day use; pulls reports as needed
- Troubleshoots and works with Quickbase consultants to fix bugs and enhance current functionality as needed
- Assesses needed enhancements and updates. May make minor enhancements and works with Quickbase consultants to build additional functionality into the database to meet business and impact analytics needs
- Designs accessible dashboards and data request protocols to empower All ES staff to access internal analyticsrelated to impact
- Coordinates collection of and manages confidential information with a high level of discretion

Education/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in communications, public policy, economics, or other social science. Minimum of five years of relevant experience required. Experience working with databases, CRMs, or low code applications; experience working with Quickbase a plus. Experience working with monitoring and evaluation tools, such as theories of change, indicators and metrics, or reporting templates and systems. Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
Knowledge/Skills Requirements:
Experience working with data architectures; Demonstrates a drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques. Strong analytical skills; skilled with both quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods. Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation frameworks; experience with impact monitoring and evaluation efforts. Experience employing impact data and/or business analytics in high quality written products, such as grant reports, presentations, and other compelling formats. Aptitude for synthesizing and presenting information compellingly to internal and external audiences, either in collaboration with senior colleagues or independently, both verbally and in writing. Creative and resourceful. Excellent communication, organizational, management, and administrative skills; ability to work collaboratively; shows initiative, dependability, and precision. Able to juggle multiple projects with competing priorities simultaneously; able to work independently, under short deadlines, and deliver in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment. Experience at a think tank a plus.
