Position: Housekeeper

Position Summary

The housekeeper is a key member of this community. Must know that good customer service skills are imperative. Must be cheerful, good attitude, and know that coming to work and on time on assigned schedule are conditions of employment. Works under the supervision of Administrator. Assures cleanliness of resident suites, assigned areas of the facility and equipment are imperative. Requests needed supplies and maintains inventory of all cleaning supplies. Assist in keeping the entire facility clean. This includes the kitchen but only during exceptions. Performs other duties as assigned. This position is a part of the maintenance department as well.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in cleaning duties.
  • Great Customer Service Skills.
  • Training in basic first aid and CPR.
  • Genuine interest in older adults.
  • Good mental and physical health and good appearance:
    • Physical examination upon employment and annually thereafter
    • No known problems with drug addition and/or alcohol.
  • Ability to work congenially with others in administering duties.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must have a team-oriented attitude.
  • Change linens, make beds, dust furniture, vacuum, clean bathrooms.
  • Possess qualities of loyalty and dependability
  • Awareness of resident’s rights.
  • Possesses good organizational skills, follow-up skills, attention to details.
  • Ability to carry out repetitive operations under specific instructions.

Reports to: Administrator/Director

Responsibilities:

  • General cleaning of entire facility and the kitchen area only during exceptions, common areas, rest rooms etc. Facility maintained in an uncluttered, clean and orderly manner, areas including:
    • Floors
    • Dusting
    • Windows
    • Vacuuming
    • Bathroom facilities
    • Laundry facilities
    • Attention to special areas such as baseboards and door facings
    • Attention to doing laundry as needed but always the dining supplies: tablecloths, napkins, table covering etc
    • Careful of wet floors in resident areas to assure resident safety
    • Porches
  • Sees or made aware of furnishing repairs needed and report to Administrator.
  • Eliminates unpleasant odors.
  • Maintains supplies of soap, paper towels and tissue in appropriate areas.
  • Empties and cleans of trash cans.
  • Takes inventory and notifies Administrator of needed chemical and housekeeping supplies.
  • Helps maintain the self-respect, personal dignity and physical safety of each resident.
  • Works cooperatively with all other staff and relate favorably to residents and families.
  • Assures careful treatment of facility equipment and utilization of supplies.
  • Attends job-related in-service education programs or staff meetings.
  • Assures that all cleaning supplies are kept locked when not in use.

Basic Cleaning Schedule

  • Cleans resident rooms each day as assigned.
  • Cleans common areas daily.
  • Cleans administrative offices daily.
  • Vacuums, dusts, and polishes furniture in living areas daily.
  • Cleans front porches and front windows daily.


Mon - Fri and every other weekend.
40 hours a week minimum.
