JOB SUMMARY: Manages and supervises daily operation of the Branch Service Department activities and employees. Strives to achieve monthly and annual Branch budget goals. Sets technician expectations to achieve growth in individual skill sets, achieve optimum work product efficiency, and to determine if individual employees are desired for retention or redeployment outside Rihm Kenworth.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Company and Operations:

  • In conjunction with Controller, Branch Manager and Director of Service, develops monthly and annual department budget goals
  • Contributes to achievement of department goals and objectives
  • Stays abreast of activities/work in the shop at all times
  • Provides service estimates to customers in conjunction with Service Writers
  • Reviews and assists in closing ROs for invoicing or the Warranty Dept within 2 days of last touch by a technician
  • Understands and ensures compliance with warranty and policy
  • Interacts with factory and vendor representatives
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with customers
  • Directly interacts with customers, direct reports and fellow-employees to achieve best customer outcomes
  • Reviews service complaints/issues and effectively takes appropriate action
  • Maintains required and needed tool inventory
  • Maintains a safe and compliant working environment
  • Maintains a professional appearance
  • May perform some work on trucks and assists mechanics, except where prohibited by a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Attends management meetings when requested
  • Other duties as assigned to meet business requirements.

Personnel Management:

  • Supervises day to day activities of branch Service employees: technicians, service writers, lot porters/lot generalists,
  • Directly oversees and works with the Service Writers to achieve best customer outcomes
  • Participates in decision making process with regard to employment actions such as hiring, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, terminations, etc.
  • Trains, motivates, mentors, monitors and reviews employee performance
  • Coaches and takes corrective and disciplinary action, especially with regard to safety matters, accidents and near misses
  • Strives for teamwork and positive employee relations within department and with other departments
  • Oversees implementation and maintenance of employee training schedule
  • Monitors/manages technician time records and approves for payroll
  • Holds regular employee meetings to foster open two-way communication and meet employee training and development needs

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years experience automotive or truck service department experience
  • 1+ years successful supervisory experience

  • Associate’s degree in Business or Management
