What You'll Do:
- Requires knowledge of behavioral health services, qualitative social science methods, epidemiology, public health, intermediate and advanced statistical procedures (inferential through multivariate analysis
- Reviews and analyzes problems and develops research /evaluation tools and methods of data collection and designs applied research projects related to substance abuse and mental health epidemiology
- Assists in the implementation and coordination of all research efforts of the Ohio Substance Abuse Monitoring Network (OSAM) for the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (OhioMHAS)
- Represents OhioMHAS with outside entities to provide state and federal agencies and communities with information related to drug use and behavioral health services trends across Ohio, with the intent of assisting constituents in making administrative decisions about behavioral health services planning and policies
- Conducts OSAM research and analysis (including data collection) in accordance with the OSAM research collection methodology
- Assists in the preparation of all OSAM research reports; conducts Focus Groups/Interviews for various OSAM research initiatives on an ongoing basis
- Assists in the collection of statistical data and analysis of qualitative data for the prescription of findings to be delivered to state-level and department-level leadership
- Represents OSAM through interaction with substance abuse prevention and treatment constituency groups
- Serves as technical advisor in the area of behavioral health and epidemiology research by keeping interested parties abreast of findings and responding to requests for data and training
- Assists in the presentation of information to all interested parties regarding the OSAM program development, progress and results
- Prepares and distributes OSAM information
- Organizes and implements studies and processes to be used during analysis
- Implements solutions to problems studied
- Assists in and/or develops new systems, policies and/or programs to increase agency efficiency and effectiveness
- Represents agency as topical expert in meetings and conferences related to substance abuse and mental health trends in Ohio
- Performs other duties as assigned
This position will require on average 3 - 4 travel days per month (no overnights).

- Or completion of undergraduate core coursework & 12 mos. exp. in one of following: health services administration, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, public administration, allied health sciences, nursing, economics, public health, or comparable field; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in research methodology, measurement & testing, analysis of variance & survey sampling; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in use of computer programs/applications used for spreadsheets, statistical analysis & graphics presentation & word processing; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in multiple regression or multivariate analysis.
