Job description

About the company:

My name is AJ Forsythe and I'm the Founder / Chief Chicken Tender at Coop! We're an Austin TX based technology company on a mission democratize chickens + build the largest decentralized food production network. It's insanely fun to work on and we have a shot at building a huge business in the connected urban farming space. Check out www.Coop.Farm - We're still in stealth so there's not much info but we're launching in ~9 months and we're looking for exceptional early-stage Hardware Dev + PM to help bring our IOT Camera Product to market. We're still a cute tiny startup that's VC backed ($m+) by some of the best investors and we're just starting to build the core founding team. Come on in, the water is warm! If you have shipped start to finish a Hardware camera product, we would love to chat.

Our mission is unconventional, the opportunity is huge, and the product is stunning. You’ll get the details during your interview process, but we’re a tight-knit team with 10+ years of experience working together. We’ve been through Y Combinator, started and scaled multinational million-dollar businesses together, taking them from idea to acquisition by a Fortune 50 company. We’re gritty and passionate without taking ourselves too seriously - and we’re here to build something really exciting that helps people reconnect with their food and the planet.

About the role:

We’re looking for exceptional early-stage Hardware Engineering + Product Manager to help our lean founding team (only 2-3 people now) bring V1 of coop to market, primarily focused on the development of our connected camera. (Think Nest, Ring, SimpliSafe, Blink, Wyze). This is a business-critical role for us, and we’re looking for someone to make us wonder how we were going to market without them.

What you’ll do in this role

  • Be the top-to-bottom owner of a battery powered smart home connected camera product (dual cameras doing computer vision, AI, intelligent event-driven push notifications and more)
  • Help build and hire the device software + firmware team, interfacing and leading seamlessly without any hardware vs. software knowledge gaps
  • Potentially find an outsourced product development firm to manage directly
  • Source a best-in-class JDM, running the entire development process in partnership with the chosen firm
  • Manage relationships with all associated vendors. Our business combines hardware and software – you’ll become the trusted POC and air-traffic-control across both sides
  • Build the firmware teams and optimize for low power consumption and connectivity
  • Explore and present white-labeled solutions
  • Drive down and own all cost controls of the product (P&L, BOM)
  • Immerse yourself in our industry (you will not be bored, we promise) and grasp the context of the business, allowing you to proactively manage, escalate and problem-solve with authority
  • Be an active member and decision maker on the leadership team. We’re a small group working in lock-step, we need bold decision makers and critical thinkers
  • Integrate with the team authentically - culture is really important to us, even remote!

You’ll enjoy this role if:

  • You are a natural team captain and love the opportunity to take charge and solve problems before they happen
  • You're unafraid to dive into an unfamiliar problem but humble enough to make mistakes, ask a ton of questions and iterate
  • You are comfortable pivoting from high to low, navigating shifting timelines, ambiguous priorities and projects with ease
  • You want to work really hard, while genuinely enjoying your work and the relationships with your colleagues
  • You are a forward-thinker who wants to be a part of something new and uncharted

What you bring to the table:

  • 3+ years in a startup environment (preferable early-stage) with proven experience in leadership and building/shipping alongside senior execs, working in a highly cross-functional role
  • Expert-level knowledge of hardware development and cost control
  • Excellent quantitative skills with the ability to transform data into insights
  • Ability to develop clean and targeted documentation, including process flows and SOPs
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic entrepreneurial environment and maintain a growth mindset and bias for action
  • A meticulous eye for detail and best-in-class ability to get it done

What we bring to the table:

  • Competitive salary with significant of bonus and upside potential
  • Equity — let’s build this rocketship together
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Great health insurance, 401k etc
  • A dynamic and passionate work environment — we're in it together
  • Empowerment to make decisions, act quickly, and be an owner of them
