Role Summary

The Flight Training Analyst is a subject matter expert in the development, forecasting, analysis and implementation of strategic training plans for the Flight Training department at Alaska Air. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgement to make decisions and provide key input into class start dates and sizes in order to optimize use of both Instructor resources and device utilization and provide recommendations to address and understand instructor demands and device utilization for the full year. This role works cross divisionally to lay out instructor training plan in order to meet training output needs, that supports cross divisional reporting analysis activities centered on a variety of flight training utilization metrics.

Key Duties

  • Manages both the yearly and monthly manpower demand and training plan requirements, in collaboration with the Director of Crew Staffing, Director Flight Training, division Finance Planning and Analysis department and the Manger of Pilot Training Scheduling and Records.
  • Works with Crew Staffing to build optimal training footprints in order to most efficiently utilize instructor manpower and device utilization while maintaining forecasted signoff dates.
  • Provides Crew Staffing with recommended class sizes and start dates in given month to optimize those metrics noted above.
  • Assess feasibility of training new instructors and works with both the Director of Crew Staffing and Director of Flight training to come up with number of instructors needed and a timeline in which to train new instructors without impacting current training plan.
  • Works to understand current trends in training data in order to identify and mitigate any problems with training and provides input on forecasted number of students expected to be released from training on a monthly basis and input through analysis on whether those numbers should expect to be met.
  • If there are potential issues works to give solutions to mitigate any negative impacts training releases.
  • Responsible for identifying, collecting and synthesizing a variety of Flight Training metrics that support efficient manpower and device utilization, for continued improvement of Flight Training assets.
  • Generates and analyzes monthly, bi-monthly, yearly and ad-hoc reports, scorecards and dashboards that validates the accuracy of flight training performance indicators found on the Flight Operations Divisional scorecard.
  • Develops training plan scenarios and organizes the results into meaningful presentations for various levels of leadership within the organization, that identify utilization constraints and determine areas of opportunity that maximize utilization demands.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 4 years of experience in data analytics and reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Proven experience of applying data driven results and best practices to influence operational action.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail driven with the ability to produce accurate results, understand the results and analyze data trends.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Highly self-motivated, able to work independently or in a team, to meet business objectives.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task and follow through with a variety of division initiatives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Experience with data mining tools (e.g., Brio, Tableau, Power BI, SQL).
  • Ability to learn complex processes and systems, to recommend appropriate utilization changes.
  • Working knowledge of the Pilot Collective Bargaining Agreement and Flight Operations Training Manual.
  • Innovative thinker, ability to evaluate and promote process improvement through analytical trends.
  • Basic competency in business mathematics or financial analysis.

Salary Range

$78,200 - $117,400 / year
