Job description

Our work at Hach ensures water quality for people around the world. Our customer partnerships, passionate experts, and reliable, easy-to-use solutions make water analysis better—faster, simpler, greener, and more informative. As a member of our team, you’ll get to make an immediate, measurable impact on a global scale, within industries from aviation to manufacturing to mining. You’ll also be part of an environment that fosters career growth and professional development, with kindness at its core. And you’ll be part of our mission, which drives us to develop water quality solutions that protect the health and safety of all living things.

Hach is proud to be one of Danaher's Water Quality companies. Motivated by the highest possible stakes of climate change and global health, we’re working together within a rapidly digitizing industry to find innovative technologies that guarantee the safety of our water and our environment.

The Opportunity:

Hach is seeking a full time Field Service Technician I to join our team in the Boston, Massachusetts area.

If you have mechanical/technical troubleshooting experience, and you want to find yourself in a collaborative environment that challenges you, rewards you for high performance, has 4-day workweeks, and you are looking for a place to grow, this could be the job for you!

What Will I Be Doing?

Working 40 hours per week (with 3-day weekends every week after completion of training, except in the case of approved overtime), you’ll provide routine repair, calibration/verification, and preventative maintenance services for Hach equipment and instruments located on customer sites. The customer base for this role is anticipated to be a blend of industrial, drinking water, and wastewater treatment facilities.

In your company-provided vehicle, with all travel expenses paid for by us, you will be traveling 50-75% of the time, supporting customers located in a 2-hour driving radius, all directions, around Boston. Customer needs will require occasional appointments as far as Maine.

You can plan to be back at home after most shifts; however, you can expect occasional overnight stays at company-approved hotels (between one to five times in six months, on average) – employee safety is one of our topmost priorities! During the initial training period, overnights will be more common during the week due to our comprehensive on-the-job mentorship and coaching through senior colleagues.

What Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Previous experience and proficiency with Preventative Maintenance and mechanical/technical diagnostics and repair is a must.

  • Proven ability to self-manage and take initiative; you are resilient, resourceful, and an expert at managing a busy workload with competing priorities.

  • You have a valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.

What Will Make Me Stand Out?

  • Previous field service experience is desirable – we especially want to hear from you if you’ve worked in the water industry.

  • You’ve completed an Associates/Technical Degree.

  • You’re a go-getter and “lifelong learner” who is motivated by satisfied customers and a job well done.

The Perks:

  • No office to report to – this is a fully remote position (a.k.a. work-from-home 25-50% of the time, travel/field work 50-75% of the time).

  • After completion of your initial 90-day training period, your schedule will consist of 4 shifts per week at 10-hour days – that means every weekend is a long-weekend!

  • Company car (maintenance/fuel paid for by us), cell phone, corporate credit card, and full benefits starting your first day, including medical/dental/vision, 401(k) with company matching, and up to $5,000 per year in performance-based bonuses.

  • Lots of independence with a seriously supportive team and manager!

  • Comprehensive training that includes on-the-job mentorship through more senior coworkers.

  • Lots of growth and development opportunities available!

When you join us, you’ll also be joining Danaher’s global organization, where 80,000 people wake up every day determined to help our customers win. As an associate, you’ll try new things, work hard, and advance your skills with guidance from dedicated leaders, all with the support of powerful Danaher Business System tools and the stability of a tested organization.
