Farm Hand Position
Business Description: Warner Farm is a 10thgeneration diversified small fruit and vegetable farm located in Sunderland, Ma. We grow over 150 acres of IPM (125 ac.) and certified organic (25 ac.) crops for wholesale throughout the Pioneer Valley, operate a 400-member CSA, and manage a U-pick Strawberry operation as well. In the fall, Warner Farm is also home to Mike’s Maze, the Pioneer Valley’s world-famous corn maze. In 2019, Warner Farm purchased the Millstone Farm Market, a year-round convenience grocery store serving Sunderland and the surrounding Pioneer Valley with fine meats, deli, fresh produce, general groceries, and unique gifts. Job Description: A farm hand at Warner Farm will be a jack of all trades, assisting in everything from local deliveries and packing vegetables to light tractor work and fieldwork. This position will assist both the wholesale manager and the production manager to ensure daily farm tasks are completed in a timely manner. An ideal candidate for this position is hard-working, with the ability to work both as a part of a team and independently.
Duties included: Washing and packing crops to ensure high levels of produce quality; Assisting customers in picking up orders at the farm to ensure customer satisfaction; Washing and cleaning of vegetable packing shed; Performing local pickups and deliveries in a timely manner; Light tractor work including light tillage, cultivating, mowing, transplanting, etc; Assisting in fieldwork, including but not limited to setting up irrigation, harvesting crops, weeding, and mulching; Assisting in greenhouse production and management; Other tasks and duties as assigned.
Will train right person with a proven track record of:
Strong work ethic
Ability to lift up to 50lb
Ability to operate autonomously
Preferred:
Previous farm and tractor driving experience
Customer service experience
Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with experience with an hourly rate of $16-18/hr. Benefits include all the fresh fruit and veggies you can eat and fall passes to Mike’s Maze. This is a seasonal position with an ideal start date in early May and running through early October, however, these dates are flexible. Opportunities for further employment and advancement are available for motivated individuals.
