Disaster Prep/Recovery Coordinator
Full-Time
Employment Status: Full-Time (40 hrs. per/week)
Salary Range: $40,000
Reports to: Regional Director of Programs & Operations
Position Description: Entry Level Positon
To support people with disabilities in the preparation and recovery of natural disasters by providing: educational trainings regarding the FEMA application/appeals process, and by providing community recovery resources and supports to survivors of disasters.
In fulfilling her/his responsibilities, the Disaster Prep/Recovery Coordinator will:
Pre-Disaster:
  • Will provide Disaster Preparedness Trainings/Recovery Resources to individuals with disabilities quarterly.
  • Will assist individuals with disabilities in acquiring the supports and resources to prepare their home for an impending disaster/hurricane.
  • Will assist individuals with disabilities in securing a shelter in place plan and assist with any needs related to their individual plans.
  • Will assist individuals with disabilities in gaining access to supplies and transportation to shelter in place.
  • Will provide sensitivity trainings to shelter workers.
  • Serve as an advocate for the consumer to receive appropriate supports while in a shelter.
  • Be engaged in the Long-Term Recovery Groups in CILGC coverage area (LTRG).
  • Become Community Emergency Response Team Certified (CERT).
  • Build community connections and volunteer groups during blue skies.
  • Participate in all trainings, which will upgrade skills related Disaster Prep/Recovery.
Post Disaster:
  • Make contact with consumers to assess their immediate needs.
  • Develop a recovery plan with Individual survivors.
  • Connect survivors to recovery services such as Operation Blue Roof, FEMA, and other recovery services.
  • Document all activities and entry into database(s), for reports required for programs/agency.
  • Provide assistance concerning basic Information and Referral Services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
Minimum Training and Experience: Bachelor in Arts/Science degree preferred. Associates Degree required. 4 or more years of experience in Disaster Relief Services may substitute for a college degree. Candidate must pass a Level II Criminal Background Screening.
Other Skills:
Good organization, presentation and communication skills required. Have a strong desire to assist individuals in their recovery process. Have the ability to be patient and calming to individuals who are in distress. Have basic knowledge of community resources. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
