POSITION PURPOSE:

Responsible for leading the strategic direction of fresh departments in their division, ensuring fresh departments stay aligned with the total division. This includes responsibility for Fresh departments sales, margins, shrink and EBITDA contributions to the division. If programs are not executing to plan or financial targets are not being met, this role is responsible for leading efforts to make the necessary adjustments and ensure that plans and financials get back on track. This role collaborates with other Sales Managers and VP Sales and Merchandising to ensure business plans that reflect local, regional and industry knowledge. Ensures compliance with all company, industry and government regulations. The Director will manage 4 - 6 Sales Managers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Planning Responsibilities: Creates period, quarterly and long-range strategies for Sales and Merchandising plans for the fresh departments in the division. Identifies local opportunities. Ensures execution of sales plans. Oversees the review of local competitive activity. Redirects team when financial targets and business plans change or are not met:

Ad/Promo Responsibilities: Ensures overall promo strategy includes local relevance. Supervises and ensures that the promo activities meet the go-to- market strategies of the division. Directs the execution of the promo strategy to ensure alignment with other related

Ensures Sales Managers appropriately execute assortment and presentation plans and have the right products in the right stores. Gives input into schematics or plan-a-grams (POG). Provides input on all new and remodeled locations related to space, size, fixtures, layout, lighting and overall look to ensure to maximize sales and profits in new and remodeled Ensures product mix is competitive with all relevant competitors.

Pricing Responsibilities: Ensures the Sales Managers execute pricing strategies to maximize sales and profits in compliance with quarterly

Sourcing Responsibilities: Oversees local vendor Ensures the Sales Manager sources local items/vendors to support local programs while using corporate vendor partners in conjunction with the buying team to drive costs down.

Managerial Responsibilities: Leads, coaches and develops Sales Managers and Assistant Sales Recruits, interviews, and hires Assistant and Sales Managers. Performs annual review process for the Sales Managers.

Additional duties and responsibilities as needed.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Education Level: 4-year degree or equivalent experience is preferred. Has an in-depth understanding of store operations and merchandising methodologies and practices (P&L, financial management). Greater depth of specific category expertise may be required on a case- by-case basis.

Experience Level:

8+ years retail merchandising experience is preferred.

2+ years of department, category, and item level management is preferred.

Store Director and/or Operations Specialist experience is highly desirable.

Skills and Experiences:

Analytical Skills: Must have a strong knowledge base in supermarket retail and an understanding of consumer behavior in relation to product performance; must carry a detailed understanding of cause-effect relations between operational levers and performance (assortment/price vs. volume/margins) by utilizing financial, statistical, merchandising, marketing, and/or consumer research.

Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to work successfully across all areas of the company; can successfully monitor performance; strong client management skills, particularly working with vendors; ability to influence and lead effective partnerships; can thrive in a complicated matrix environment.

Innovation: Champions new ideas and initiatives and creates an environment that supports innovation; leverages fresh perspectives, breakthrough ideas, and new paradigms to create value in the market.

Negotiation Skills: Must demonstrate ability to negotiate contracts and terms in order to gain maximum advantage for costs and vendor funding opportunities.

Strategic Skills: Demonstrate ability to understand and think big picture; delivers plans and programs that compliment both the corporate and departmental strategies leading to strong category sales and profit performance.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to develop and maintain effective business relationships within and outside of the company.

Technical Skills: Well developed computer aptitude with proficient skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office; ability to adapt to and learn new systems quickly.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: May travel throughout the Division as well as other Divisions in the Company. Travel varies and may be up to 50% of workweek.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled store environment but includes refrigerated and frozen cases and storage areas.

Incumbent is required to walk and climb in the retail store.

Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer.

Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal day.

Must have own transportation and be available for overnight travel as needed.

Colorado positions ONLY Salary Range Begins: $115,300 to $120,000 and is commensurate with experience and other relevant factors.
