Overview:
Atlantic Health System is seeking a Per Diem Dietetic Assistant for the Food Service Department at Newton Medical Center to work 7am-5pm including every other weekend.
Responsibilities:
Essential Function/Responsibilities:
  • Maintains standards of the Food Service Department clinical program and those set by the hospital, the New Jersey Department of Health and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.
  • Visits patients on a daily basis and obtains food preferences and allergies.
  • Consults with patients relating to food preferences, food allergies, menu selections and meal service.
  • Orients patients to food service Policies and Procedures.
  • Collects menus on a daily basis, assisting patients with selections if needed.
  • Checks menus against the dietary profile and ensures all data in the profile is translated to the menu.
  • Evaluates appropriateness of diet prescription utilizing subjective and objective patient data.
  • Formulates menus for therapeutic diets based on medical and physical condition of the patient.
  • Recognizes and adopts activities appropriate to the specific needs of the patient population and demonstrates knowledge of specific issues directly related to age of patient population including pediatrics, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Assess patients food intake of meals.
  • Communicates necessary information to Dietitians including referring any patients deemed to be at nutritional risk.
  • Instructs patients and their families in nutritional principles, dietary plans, food selection and preparation.
  • Visits patients regularly to ascertain diet adherence, meal tolerance and patient satisfaction.
  • Maintains accurate records to meet regulatory agency guidelines and assists in statistical analysis of data.
  • Works with other Department employees to ensure timely delivery of patient trays, supplements and formulas.
  • Accurately compiles a list of special food orders and communicates effectively with the food production employees.
  • Adheres to established systems and training programs to provide a safe working environment.
  • Complies with all OSHA regulations and other local, state and federal government regulations.
  • Participates in the hospital community as a nutrition advocate and educator.
  • Interacts in resolving problems with menus and/or meal service.
  • Works with and at the direction of the Clinical Nutrition Coordinator to complete other tasks deemed necessary for the proper functioning of the department.
Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required

Minimum Experience:

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Ideal candidate will have a working understanding of the basic guidelines for therapeutic diets
  • Candidate should be familiar with the use of general office equipment, including computers
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull 50lb
  • 1 year experience working in direct patient care preferred
