JOB DESCRIPTION:

Seeking a self-motivated mid-level or senior level Data Engineer with expertise in building interactive, custom dashboards in R-studio and R-shiny. You will have opportunities to answer business questions with data visualizations that impact billion-dollar budget decisions by joining data sets from databases and excel with SQL and R. This requires experience with financial lines of accounting and planning data. You will gain exposure to other cryptic data sources, accessible only at the policymaker and executive levels of the Department of Defense, and grow and learn from expert data engineers in the fields of military readiness, acquisitions, quality of life analysis, and risk management. You will also gain exposure to a broad swath of data types and datasets, which rotate throughout the year and, depending on the problem, challenge your portfolio of data engineering and data science skills. Finally, you will communicate findings based on empirical evidence and descriptive statistics to senior pentagon leaders with data visualization dashboards and briefs. Candidate must have exceptional communication skills (oral and written), be able to work independently, assess the resource implications / articulate the Army's position or equities / provide strategic recommendations to Army Senior Leaders aligned with the National Defense Strategy or Army Planning Guidance.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Build interactive dashboards and tools using R-studio and R-shiny, from scratch, by following data visualization best practices for a small user base of military leadership.

• Transforming crude data sources, with tightly controlled federal policy restrictions, into clean, dynamic structured data sets.

• Answer business questions for senior leaders at the pentagon with descriptive statistics and financial data.

• Join finance and line of accounting data from databases and Excel using SQL.

• Clients may require in-office meetings at will.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Secret **Top Secret preferred**

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, data science, physics, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience building interactive dashboards and tools with data processing software R-studio and R-Shiny.

• Completed at least one project with full R-Studio / R-Shiney.

• Experience transforming crude data sources into clean, dynamic structured datasets.

• Knows at least two programming languages.

• Knowledge of federal data regulations in secure, controlled environments.

• Experience joining datasets from databases such as PostgreSQL and Excel programmatically.

• Executive policy maker communication and briefing experience or equivalent private sector experience.

• Intrinsic motivation to learn new subject matter and data science tradecraft with intellectual curiosity.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledgeable RESTful APIs

• Experience with process automation

• Python Plotly dashboard experience
