About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager SSP, Early Years, the Consultant, Early Years, contributes an expert level of advice to the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programs, policies, standards and protocols for children aged 0-5. The areas of responsibility for this position include preconception, prenatal, Enhanced Home Visiting (EHV) and postpartum supports.


The position works with the team of Public Health program consultants, a broad set of health and community partners as well as other stakeholders to support action on policy and system change to create supportive social, economic and physical environments that protect and promote the healthy development and wellbeing of children in the early years.


The Consultant provides leadership and advanced knowledge in programs, policies, standards, models and strategies to promote and support the development of physical, social and built environments to reduce health inequities, and address the determinants of health for children in the early years.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:


  • Masters in public health, or equivalent with 3-5 years relevant experience
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing with 5-7 years relevant experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and 7 years progressive leadership experience may be considered
  • Eligible for registration with a professional body as appropriate
  • Experience in strategic leadership in the planning, development and evaluation of public health programs, services and initiatives based on community assessments, data and best practice models for the early years.
  • Demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support early years work.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations including the NS Health Protection Act, NS Health Authorities Act etc.
  • In depth knowledge of Public Health programs, practice including the mandate and functions in Nova Scotia and/or similar jurisdictions related to the early years.
  • Innovative systems thinking with an understanding of working with communities.
  • Responsibilities are provincial in scope, resulting in travel throughout the province
  • Demonstrated proficiency in LEADS

Hours

Permanent, Full-time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly

Compensation and Incentives

$35.27 - $44.09 Hourly


Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
