Role Summary

The Community Relations Specialist is a subject matter expert in the development and execution of corporate sponsorships, donations, community-based events, and partnerships on behalf of Alaska Airlines in California markets. As an individual contributor with significant autonomy in external and internal relationships and execution, the Community Relations Specialist is also responsible for development of written communications, document compliance, and engagement opportunities associated with successful execution of this work – and is part of a core team driving Alaska Airlines’ business performance in California and beyond. This role also serves as a speaker and ambassador for the company with influencers, communities, and employees.

Key Duties

  • Researches, evaluates, reviews, and makes recommendations to executive leadership for corporate giving requests and sponsorships.
  • Identifies organizations to develop deeper relationships with to fulfill California market business strategies.
  • Makes decisions and executes grant selection processes and appropriate approvals and agreements.
  • Develops and executes workplans for events, projects, and initiatives on behalf of Alaska Airlines.
  • Prepares written communications and presentations, and creates and gathers multimedia content to support Alaska Airlines and partner announcements and events, and maintains files and event calendars.
  • Advocates on issues of business relevance at the direction of the government affairs and CA public affairs teams.
  • Manages major communications, event campaigns, and announcements in partnership with the MD California Public Affairs, MD Communications, members of the communications teams, and others as appropriate.
  • Builds new relationships and maintains existing relationships with community-based organizations within scope of responsibility.
  • Maintains a professional community presence and profile in both public and private sectors.
  • Represents Alaska Airlines at community events, media trips, trade association and employee meetings.
  • Maintains, reviews, and reconciles procurement card expenses, including in-kind ticket allocations.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 4 years of experience in marketing, public relations, or communications, or related area.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels and disciplines across a company.
  • Strong communication (verbal, written, and interpersonal), organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to appropriately prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and deliver results.
  • Experience with budget processes and systems.
  • Ability to work independently, practice confidentiality, and maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to readily learn new skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Network in California and/or the California Bay Area.
  • Events management and accounting experience.

Salary Range

$85,400 - $128,000 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
