Overview:
The Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) is hiring a new addition to the team in the form of a Communications Manager (Marketer III) who will expand the awareness and impact of the UWLP and “A Bolder Way Forward.” This includes sharing research, resources, and events with a wider audience. This person will oversee communications strategy development, which involves social media content, public relations, marketing materials, podcast production, and website content management. The ideal candidate has superb organizational, communication, and leadership skills, and must be tech-savvy and proficient with various content creation and analytics tools.

Responsibilities:
Public Relations – 40%
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive list of press, media, and community communication mediums; writes, produces, and distributes press kits, feature stories, public service announcements, and other items.
  • Conducts media relations efforts and establishes and maintains relationships with key media personnel.
  • Works with the UWLP Associate Director over research to correctly interpret and convey research findings for the media and public.
  • Writes, edits, and distributes electronic and printed marketing communication materials.
  • Develops, coordinates, and executes multiple communication plans that support the UWLP’s initiatives and strategies, including “A Bolder Way Forward” (BWF).
  • May assist in the development and implementation of special events and promotional activities.
Social Media – 30%
  • Assist with planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of social media marketing strategies to expand awareness of the UWLP/BWF and share research, resources, and events with a wider audience.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy – lead and monitor the day-to-day social marketing and engagement activities, including the creation and execution of a content calendar and creation and execution of large-scale engagement campaigns.
  • Assist with the production, editing, and use of digital media and graphics.
  • Help evaluate the success of social media campaigns, posts, and performance.
  • Stay up-to-date with social media best practices and technologies.
  • Supervision of student employee when applicable, volunteers, and coordination with all college and departmental social media managers.
Print Design - 15%
  • Assist with the production of marketing materials such as brochures, folders, pull-up banners, posters, and year-end reports.
  • Assist with the production of resources such as infographics, handouts, and other materials.
Podcast & Video Production – 10%
  • Schedule and prepare podcast guests, draft podcast scripts, and oversee podcast recording.
  • Develop video content for promotional purposes and project initiatives.
Website - 5%
  • Assist with website design and strategy.
  • Assist with website content and creation, particularly blog posts.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field; and four or more years of professional experience in a related field.
  • Experience managing news and media relations.
  • Knowledge of multimedia production, programming, and editing from inception to completion.
  • Knowledge of the elements and principles of design.
  • Mid-level experience with online media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Proven results executing social media marketing campaigns.
  • Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising social campaigns and content that engage, inform, and motivate.
  • Ability to perform content moderation in a professional way.
  • A willingness to learn techniques for making digital content accessible.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field; at least six years of experience in related field; and demonstrated connections in Utah’s public sphere.
  • Established connections with media members and groups in Utah.
  • Knowledge of and involvement in women’s efforts and groups in Utah.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of women’s groups, interests, and topics in Utah.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail along with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as be self-driven to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of journalism, marketing, and branding principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of design for print publication, including crop and bleed, resolution, and color requirements.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • An understanding of various social media platforms, how to use them, and what audience is likely to be reached on them.
  • Comfort with Adobe Creative Suite tools such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Experience using video and audio editing tools.
  • Knowledge of accessibility requirements and how to meet them.
