Friends Village is looking for CNA's to come join our TEAM!!!!! We have all shifts and hours available.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The CNA takes care of the personal needs of the resident in accordance with state and federal regulations, under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The CNA provides assistance with the individual activities of daily living for residents assigned to their care, including assistance with dining and activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education Required: Successful completion and certification as a Certified Nurse’s Aide in the state of New Jersey
Education Preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum Experience Required: None
Experience Preferred: 6 months Long Term Care experience
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current New Jersey Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate
Specialized Knowledge/Skills: 1) Good interpersonal skills, 2) Ability to work as part of a healthcare team, 3) Ability to communicate observations accurately, 4) Ability to relate to the elderly, 5) Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
Minimum Competency Requirement: See competency assessment form.
Physical/Environmental Conditions: Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds for various time spans. Must be able to stand, squat, stoop and kneel for different lengths of time.
Must be able to push/pull a minimum of 25 pounds. Possible exposure to Bio-hazardous material.
Equipment Requirements: General office equipment including a fax machine, copier, telephone, cell phone and pagers. Must have knowledge of basic nursing equipment including lifts, scales, wheelchairs and more.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Administers personal care to residents in the Healthcare Unit.
a. Assists residents with their bathing needs while maintaining dignity.
b. Assists residents with dressing and in dressing allowing residents to choose clothing preferences whenever possible.
c. Assists residents with their toileting needs with sensitivity and documents results.
d. Provides residents with assistance in their activities of daily living as indicated by their Plan of Care.
e. Answers call bells in a timely manner.
f. Assists resident transfers and/or ambulation, turning, and range of motion.
2. Meets nutritional needs of the resident in the Healthcare Unit.
a. Serves meals to the residents in a timely manner.
b. Assists the residents’ cueing or feeding as indicated.
c. Offers residents fluids and snacks between meals for those residents who have an identified nutritional need on their Plan of Care.
d. Documents residents’ meal consumption on the appropriate log.
e. Assists in the placement setting and clean up after the resident is completed with their meal.
3. Maintains a clean, safe and accident free environment for the residents.
a. Observes surroundings for resident safety hazards and reports found hazards to the charge nurse.
b. Monitors residents who are identified at risk for elopement and redirects as needed.
c. Stores supplies neatly in the appropriate areas.
d. Maintains residents’ rooms in a clean, orderly manner.
e. Is familiar with the facility’s emergency management plan for fire, disaster and elopement.
f. Transports residents safely from area to area.
4. Maintains and promotes quality resident care through cooperation with other staff and the interdisciplinary team.
a. Works with other team members, helping to cover breaks and assisting when needed.
b. Completes assignments in a timely manner.
c. Participates in Quality Improvement activities as requested.
d. Demonstrates flexibility when staffing assignment changes.
e. Attends or completes 100% of assigned training classes, staff meetings and/or in-services.
f. Demonstrates an active role in advocating for residents.
g. Completes the minimum 12 continuing education classes and/or in-services annually.
5. Communication Skills.
a. Seeks to build and maintain relationships will all individuals (e.g., residents, family
members, visitor, staff members, and members of the community) that reflect mutual respect, courtesy and cooperation.
b. Demonstrates professional, efficient and courteous telephone manner at all times.
c. Maintains confidentiality of information without exception. No incidents have occurred where information was revealed or discussed except where and when appropriate.
d. Verbal communications with all individuals are consistently clear, to the point, and show mutual respect; listens to and responds to others appropriately.
e. Written communications with all individuals are consistently clear and accurate.
f. Demonstrates respectful non-verbal communication skills and behaviors (e.g., uses a tone of voice appropriate to the situation; refrains from disrespectful hand, body or facial gestures.)
6. Departmental/Organizational Responsibilities.
a. Understands and consistently follows proper safety policies and procedures; takes
responsibility and appropriate action when necessary.
b. Understands and consistently follows proper emergency policies and procedures. (RACE: Rescue-Alert-Contain-Evacuate); takes responsibility and appropriate action in the event of an emergency.
c. Understands and consistently follows proper infection control policies and procedures; takes responsibility and appropriate action when necessary.
d. Understands and consistently follows proper hazardous materials/waste handling and disposal policies and procedures; takes responsibility and appropriate action when necessary.
e. Consistently demonstrates ability to properly operate and/or utilize equipment required to perform job functions.
f. Willingly accepts additional duties and/or responsibilities whenever possible.
g. Consistently demonstrates support of departmental performance improvement program.
h. Attends and participates in cost containment efforts. Assures efficient use of equipment, time, supplies, telephones, computers and other resources.
i. Maintains responsibility for attendance and punctuality. Adheres to break and meal schedule, takes breaks and meals outside of clinical areas, maintains an acceptable attendance record and follows departmental procedure if unable to come to work.
j.Attends and participates in all mandatory in-service education classes, seminars and on- the-job training programs as required.
7. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
