Classification: Youth Worker I
Reports to: Lead Staff
Job Characteristics: Provides supervision for youth committed to Foothills Academy
Minimum Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: None
Special Requirements: Must possess valid driver’s license. Must successfully
complete required SCM training prior to working
directly with youth. Successfully pass background
checks.
Applicant must be 21 years of age minimum.
If under 21, then applicant can pursue employment if they enrolled in college or
secondary education classes in this field of study.
Examples of duties and/or responsibilities: Note: This is NOT an all-inclusive list. Other assignments may be made by the agency or supervisors.
- Supervises youth in their normal daily routine, recreation time and while sleeping.
- Actively participates in the implementation of individual treatment plans.
- Supervises youth while in school and during study time.
- Assumes leadership role in organizing sports and recreational activities that are approved by the treatment team.
- Maintains a daily log of observations of any usual event that should be brought to the attention of treatment team and workers on next shift.
- Supervises work duties and demonstrates safe use of tools and equipment.
- Assist youth in developing social skills and living skills.
- Assumes responsibility for routine maintenance of building, assuring supplies and linens are available for clients and assists with housekeeping and laundry responsibilities.
- Transports youth to and from authorized locations off campus.
- Attends staff meetings and training sessions as directed.
- Complete all agency reports as required by policy and directed by supervisor.
- Any other duties assigned.
Qualifications required to perform duties of this position:
- Must be physically able to complete the safe physical management training and physically hold youth.
- Must possess high level of communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
- Ability to think independently and make quick decisions relative to youth well-being.
- Ability to demonstrate proper use of tools and equipment used in work details.
- Must possess the ability to interact with youth therapeutically and at all times be a positive role model.
Working conditions and physical requirements:
- Duties of this position require using physical restraint of youth.
- May exert physical effort while assisting youth in using tools and equipment during work detail and during routine maintenance work around the cottage.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $14.50 per hour
