As a central supply clerk in a nursing home, you are responsible for planning and directing the procurement of nursing supplies, such as examination gloves, patient lifts, bed pans, adult diapers, mattresses and medical supplies. You select vendors and supplies, research and evaluate suppliers, analyze price proposals and negotiate contracts.

Material recording clerks may also research new products and medical equipment and then submit bid proposals . Working under the direction of a supervisor, they ensure that orders are confirmed and correct and handle shipping errors or returns of damaged merchandise.

Daily Job Duties

The central supply clerk issues supplies to specific staff or departments and ensure that vendors provide appropriate safety sheets and materials. They maintain a reference of procurement procedures, current standards and regulations, as well as ensure that the appropriate departments are charged for equipment or supplies. They help organize storage areas, place items in storage bins and supervise the use of supplies in the accordance with federals law or company guidelines.

Knowledge of strategic planning and resource allocation principles are necessary requirements. A central supply clerk also needs strong communication skills and savvy to negotiate with vendors. An eye for detail is helpful in examining incoming products for posssible defects.
