Work Schedule: 5-20 hours per week; shifts based on operational need of the organization. This position will be working on campus. Must be available for the duration of the program including camp training and daily camp responsibilities, April 30-August 18th, 2023.

OVERVIEW

Associated Students, Inc. employs student-focused professionals with equity-mindsets. Established in 1963, ASI is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is considered a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 27,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. ASI is engaged in the work of being a learning organization. Currently, the guiding ideas of the organization are “under construction” as the team re-imagines its vision, mission, and core values. ASI is looking for dynamic team members who value team learning, co-creation, and adaptability to best serve the needs of our students.

Established in 2006, Kids University is a kindergarten through sixth-grade program hosted by ASI Campus Recreation. Kids University’s mission is, to support CPP students through employment, furtherment of academics, and inclusive experiential learning opportunities to support the social emotional learning, academics, and development of interpersonal skills for not only dependents of students, faculty, and staff but those in the greater CPP community as well. Kids University currently offers programming in the form of afterschool tutoring, afterschool childcare, and summer day camp.

POSITION DEFINITION

Under general supervision from the Youth Programs Manager the Camp Activity Leader provides program specific support for Campus Recreation youth programs. This position assists with program curriculum preparation and leads daily activities during youth programming in ASI Facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Responsible for the supervision and safeguarding of assigned youth camper group ages 6 to 12
  • Leads age-appropriate camp group activities in one or more of the following areas: recreational sports, adventure, theatre, arts, and/or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activities-based curriculum
  • Enforces policies and follows guidelines regarding use of the BRIC by minors
  • Completes daily activity logs as necessary
  • Assists with the youth program planning and preparation for Campus Recreation
  • Assists with assessment and implementation of youth programs
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required in a calm and effective manner
  • Presents a professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service
  • Reports basic concerns to appropriate personnel
  • Completes appropriate activity reports
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Ensure camp activities are appropriate and inclusive to all campers in the group regardless of age, skill, or special needs
  • Ensure proper staff to camper ratios are maintained
  • Implement behavior management in accordance with camp policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

  • American Red Cross First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and CPR for Professional Rescuers or approved equivalent (Provided upon hire)
  • Experience working with youth, ages 5-12
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Experience in a leadership capacity with youth programming, preferred
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situation
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain professional work conduct
  • Ability to make independent decisions and make recommendations
  • Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively and work productively without close supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus community
  • Ability to operate a computer workstation using word processing, spreadsheet and other computer applications in use
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check)

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can begin employment with Associated Students, Inc., Cal Poly Pomona. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear; manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and verbal communication; use of office equipment: telephones, calculator, copier and fax. Must be able to walk, stand, bend and lift to 45 pounds

Position subject to an occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Annual bloodborne pathogen training is required. The initial training must be completed before the employee is assigned duties that may result in exposure to blood or bodily fluids. Hepatitis B vaccination will be offered after the training.

MANDATED REPORTING REQUIREMENT

In compliance with the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and the CSU Executive Order 1083, each ASI employee is designated as a mandated reporter and is required to sign an Acknowledgment of Mandated Reporter Status and Legal Duty to Report Child Abuse and Neglect.
