Analysts in the Business Intelligence (BI) Series are primarily responsible for organizing data on County operations and developing dashboards to support performance management and continuous improvement of County services
Key Elements Of The Role:
Business Intelligence Analysts identify Key Performance Indicators that underpin County services, analyze cycle times to identify process bottlenecks, and develop historical analysis and predictive models to support Executive strategy. BI Analysts will receive training on SQL coding, Lean Six Sigma methodologies, and PMI project management skills. BI Analysts will primarily leverage Tableau in these dashboarding efforts. Ideal candidates will have completed coursework in data science, computer science, applied math, and other related fields.
Business Intelligence Analysts work hand in hand with Continuous Innovation Analysts supporting data-driven decision making in County Departments. These roles are part of a County-wide office of Continuous Innovation that works in collaboration with 311 Call Center, the Department of Information Technology, and the County Executive.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information systems or a related field, plus one (1) year of reports design and development experience utilizing Business Intelligence and/or data warehouse technology.
  • Additional opportunities may be available for candidates with certified experience in one or more of the following fields: Lean Six Sigma, Project Management, Salesforce, Tableau, SQL.

This Role Is A Provisional Appointment
A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates.
