POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Sr. Director Sports and Recreation, the Building Supervisor is responsible for providing direct leadership and supervision of gymnasium activities during Open Gym, Family Gym and evening Adult Sports, as well as overseeing the entire YMCA facility during evenings and weekends. This includes: assisting the maintenance/facilities staff in breaking down and storing gymnastic equipment, monitoring the usage of sports equipment in the gymnasium and roaming the facility to ensure building safety, building cleanliness and enforce proper etiquette among members, in accordance with gymnasium rules and membership Code of Conduct. A primary function of this role will be the focus on member engagement, customer service and building authentic relationships with our members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide direct supervision and active oversight during Open Gym, Family Gym and evening Adult Sports.

2. Maintain standards of conduct in accordance with the gymnasium rules and overall Y Code of Conduct.

3. Distribute, monitor and account for all gymnasium sports equipment.

4. Setup and breakdown all gymnasium equipment including gymnastics apparatus.

5. Foster a comfortable, inclusive, non-threatening program environment for all participants in the gymnasium.

6. Actively resolve conflicts or disputes as necessary.

7. Monitor all common areas of the building and grounds by walking the building several times per shift.

8. Complete Building Supervisor checklist.

9. Coordinate building closing with Fitness, Aquatics and Member Services staff.

10. Project a positive and enthusiastic image on the job by wearing YMCA-labeled gear and nametag.

11. Cultivate strong working relationships with YMCA members, staff and program participants.

12. Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.

13. Assist in training other staff/volunteers as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be at least eighteen years of age.

2. Ideal candidate will have experience working with children, teens and adults.

3. He/she must possess the ability to prioritize and multi-task by monitoring gymnasium activities and patrol the rest of the facility.

4. The ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with staff, members and program participants is essential for job success.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to provide physical support/assistance to participants and members; this may mean the ability to hold up 10 pounds in the water or support 30 pounds in sports activities.

2. Ability to setup and breakdown gymnastics apparatus including lifting large equipment on and off dollies.

3. Ability to both see and hear visual cues amongst staff and members as well as the ability to respond back to those cues.

Hours: Weekday shifts are Monday 4:00-9:15pm or 5:00-9:15pm

Tuesday -Thursday 4:00-9:15pm or 5:00-9:15pm

Saturday & Sunday – 6:45am-12:00pm or 12:00-6:15pm

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.50 - $20.00 per hour
