GENERAL SUMMARY
Baristas must have a love and appreciation for connecting with people, working hard in a team environment as well as independently, and above all else, for coffee from the seed to the very last drop. A key part of every Barista’s job is to serve as a BBCC ambassador, engaging the guest at every opportunity and inspiring them to return.
Baristas are responsible for educating customers on our menu, making recommendations based on customers preferences, taking orders, up-selling special items, and maintaining a clean and presentable café. Baristas consistently demonstrate excellent customer service skills, creating an atmosphere of warmth and inclusivity for all of our customers - who are our family and neighbors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet and welcome customers in a friendly manner
- Take and prepare food and drink orders
- Knowledgeable about and speaks to customers fluently on drink recipes, menu items, and coffee roasts
- Speaks professionally and politely to customers, coworkers, vendors, and supervisors at all times
- Accurately process purchases using POS system
- Answer customers’ questions about menu choices
- Promote menu items to customers knowledgeably and professionally
- Perform daily cleanliness and maintenance tasks
- Keep work and customer stations stocked and organized
- Follow meticulous cleaning practices adapted from health & safety code standards to ensure a clean and safe café environment
- Participate in trainings as required, staying up to date on latest coffee trends
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Must have coffee knowledge and developed coffee palette
- Knowledge of brewing methods and specialty drinks
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume, clean, customer-focused workplace
- Adapts to changes in the business environment positively and quickly
- Demonstrates prompt and effective time management practices
- Demonstrates an understanding of workflow and speed of service (managing customer wait times)
- Desires to exceed company goals and expectations of customer service, quality, and cleanliness
- 6+ months barista management/lead experience preferred
